Good suggestions other than disassembly? It’s not the @mrk5 variant, just from sitting too much

I’ve done the penetrating oil in the plug before. Was trying not to wreck the fresh oil change. But it’s bad enough to cause blow-by

If you're really trying you save the oil, you could drain it into a clean container before adding the ATF. Just leave the drain plug out and let the ATF drain out into a separate pan after letting is soak and it leaks past the rings. Rotate the engine by hand and flush it with a quart or 2 of oil before replacing the plug and filling back up.

I had thought of that, also

I've done PB blaster in the plug hole and rock the crank with a breaker bar...I made the mistake of starting one that sat 16 years with the starter once, bent two pushrods....now I use a bar.

You can put Marvel Mystery Oil in the crankcase and the fuel. Used to do it all the time on my 76. Never hurt anything.

Are you getting the engine warm enough to get everything to expand just a bit? Takes awhile sometimes, especially with our cast iron blocks.

Soak all the cylinders for a week or so then with the plugs still out and the ignition wire removed, crank over. If there is no compression shouldn't have any bent pushrods. My Jimmy sat for a good 10 or 12 years and its how I got it running again.

I had a couple different theories before I posted.

GM crate ZZ4. Fresh synthetic oil
Only ticks and blows by, only when hot
This engine had the beans run out of it before we stuck it in moms SS

One theory was the ring stuck in the piston. Ticking with blowby

The other thing I hasn’t already mentioned but wondered about is the oil. So Wade and I were on the same page. Ticking and blowby because the oil is too thin

I’m gonna dig up some conventional oil and start over
