stupid oil leak

Harley's, air cooled vw,a gen1 sbc, all mark their territory.

You forgot 6.2 diesels ..and all Detroits ..

I had a '63 VW Beetle as my first car,it leaked like a sieve from its push rod tubes--I had to add a quart daily after driving it maybe 50 miles,and since those air cooled VW's only held 2.5 quarts,you had to really keep an eye on the oil level,one quart low was fatal on those,its a miracle that many didn't seize up ..!.
 
well ,it is not leaking from the rear main or oil pan or timing cover but it is leaking from above the starter

Valve cover, dist, I know you just did the intake. Also look at the oil galley/sender just next to distributor boss.

Add a second gasket under dist
 
Like deja vu... I also did my intake a few times. The most recent time the gaskets actually became saturated from coolant and caused havoc:dunno:

after being very careful cleaning all intake sealing surfaces the stupid intake is leaking oil in the back.

I ran a big bead of ultra black and it still didn’t seal
Even used a green scotch pad to clean block and alcohol after that.......
 
YEP, i checked it yesterday. I am going to have to cheat and take some scotch brit pad spray with carb cleaner clean that area and goop rtv on it till i can afford to change gasket again......................
 
More deja vue... Is your block "decked"? Are you using valley gaskets?

First I've had no luck with ultra back or ultra grey.

Only "right stuff" of permatex which is the same brand but I guess it's different.

Carb cleaner leaves a residue, I only use non chlorinated brake cleaner and make sure to blow out the valley casting holes with compressed air. I may have made this mistake one time myself.

If your block was zero decked as mine was, you'll want to dry fit with the intake gaskets you are running. Make sure there is enough room for the valley gaskets. I did not have room and had to use rtv only. Just make sure to load up the corners where the head meets the valley on the inner corners.
For extra credit I also rtv'd the intake gaskets with an extremely thin layer of rtv as I had a set of gaskets saturate strangelyaand I didn't want to take any more chances.

Side note if your block was "zero decked" really far you may want to run thicker intake gaskets. Thickest I could find was. 125
 
i think thats my problem ultra black is not what it used to be and i will find the right stuff permatex and do the intake gaskets again.......
 
I skimmed the thread, but I'll say my life improved when I made my peace with a certain level of leakage. As long as it only leaks when/after a drive and won't consume your fluids just sitting.

Not sure if you checked, but my current leak is from the dipstick tube. I made a half hearted attempt to go after it once, but it was so hard to remove I figured I'd make it worse just getting it out.
 
When i drove it and got the step ladder and a mirror you can clearly see the back of the intake is leaking

So I got the right stuff gasket maker from permatex
All the had was in a can but I will redo intake gaskets and clean all surfaces with denatured alcohol before using rtv
