Damn, those are perfect! Been trying to find something to use as storage and not take up a lot of space. Any idea on manufacturer?

Im installing them backwards so that I can open the lid, otherwise I would have to space them out 1 1/2" .

These are the 32" they have a 40" version also, remember my suburban is 14" shorter, basically the same as a blazer.

I'm not sure about white, I can paint them black but I think what I want is raw aluminum, I got these for a steal, so I can sell them later for a profit, I just don't like the chrome.

Pushed it outside to clean up the shop and dust it off, so I took a few pictures.

I've been working some serious o.t. lately, so when I leave work my 'burb is one of the last vehicles in the lot. I see a good profile of it and I curse you (in a friendly way ) because I know mine would look so much better with an ass trim.

Suburban Bob

Hey D-Rat,
Congrats on the build, I've read the whole thread on here and Expedition Portal and it's given me some great ideas. I love the 4 door blazer!!! I'm looking to build something similar for me and my 4 boys to explore the California Deserts, Mountains and Baja.
I started a thread on the Body Shop section about bobbing a Suburban, but realized that you could probably answer my questions since you've done this...

Here's the Text:
I'm thinking about bobbing the rear of my 84' Suburban and I'm trying to figure out how much I want to chop. My goal is to make it look like it came this way from the "factory". Overall goal is to make it a little more "nimble" offroad and give it a different look....4 door blazer but I must keep the fuel tank in the rear location. (switch to a Blazer tank or build one to maximize capacity)

A few questions I have, any input is much appreciated:
- from rear lip of non trimmed fender to end of body is about 30" on a suburban.
- what is the total overhang of a blazer? (I'm guessing 20")
- in your opinion how much of a chop would look correct? I know this is subjective but I'm looking for ideas.
- other than the obvious (cutting, welding, painting) anything else I need to be aware of for this project?
- Structural Integrity of the body?
- Suburban has rear A/C, I'd like to keep this if possible. Easiest way to do this?
- Did you decide what direction you're going with the rear glass?

Well as you know by now I'm always looking for a good deal and I found a great deal this time.

Spent some time with the heat gun and manipulate it the best I could.

Still need to fabricate a bracket for the windshield.

Had to do a little plastic welding to get the couture of the fender.

The FJ80 snorkel, which that looks suspiciously like, fits with a bit of massaging (and an awful lot of knuckle-busting and swearing.)

Yes it is for a Toyota 80 and it took a lot more than a bit of massaging and thanks to Metdrops build I knew to use a strap and sand, and it's not that bad if you take the fender off.

Was able to get out one of my favorite tools today.

these trucks may be called square bodies but I'm putting a curve on everything.

this main tube is more for protecting the roof from hazards.

so what do you think so far, give some ideas before I get more time off to work.

My plan is to keep this tube close to where it's at since this tube is more for protection with a smaller hoop inboard above the roof that can be used as a platform and a place to strap things down and to attach the light bar.

I would say give it enough space for stuff to fall between the bar and the roof so nothing will get stuck there.

My thoughts are to keep it tight enough that nothing will get stuck.
