Swaybar disconnects on a K5

Nah..try it out...report back...
Ok, drove it to and from work...

At first i didn`t notice anything, until i backed out of my driveway. My driveways a hill and when i got towards the end and hit the brakes, i saw the nose go up, and it must of took just enough weight to allow my tires to skid. Then i got out on the street, and the first think i noticed, was bump steer was completely gone. So i took some extra side streets, no too fast, and didnt notice too much of a difference, besides a little less stiffness, and the nose dips to opposite side. And as you stated NoahRob, the nose dips when braking, but i can see it dip as soon as i hit the brakes. Then i get onto the highway...get up to about 50, seems a little wobbly in front, then i switch lanes, and again it felt wobbly....not sure if thats due to the fact i have a bad body mount, or that i did actually pull the sway bar up and out of the way and tie it up (all i did was take out bolts)...But i think i`ll have to drive it a few more times to see if i like it or not, if i do, i guess i`ll have to sell the discos i bought....Wow, i`m already thinking of selling something before i have even recieved it in the first place:eek1:

when I was debating on running without mine I unhooked it and wired it up. with worn out stock springs it rode fine so I went wheelin with it unhooked. went straight home and took it off. never looked back.

why do you think i got the wobble, unstable feeling??

what kind of wobble is it? is the whole body rocking back and forth or is it more like the front end wobbling? my body does sway a little more and the nose dips when I brake hard but no wobbling. the only time Ive ever got a wobbly feeling was from bad ball joints or a bad tie rod end.

Well, it feels like the body is rolling from side to side a little, causing the truck to seem like it was wobbling/wondering, especially when i got on the highway. I know its neither bad ball joints or tre`s as they were all recently replaced.

it probally is wobbling back and forth some, thats what the swaybar stops, go with a stiffer shock and it may go away.

I took mine off like a month ago and I have not noticed any difrence while driving might be do to the fact that I have some stiff Azz springs (Rough Contry) so they compensate for the sway bar not being there.

GET RID OF IT!!

Well i drove it around a little today, and not sure if i like it or not. I must have some real soft springs, because it seems so sway a pretty good amount. The city driving I can get used to, but i think I`m going to have to drive the highway a little more to see if it feels any better. Any one else able to get the tires to lock up and skid while braking in reverse?:D

Do you drive the highway at all? How is it?

Well, I`ve been driving it for about 4 days, and I`m slowly getting used to it...Although i still may hook the discos up when they come in to see how it drives, its looking doubtful.......now i have a reason to fix that body mount:eek1:  :D

I disconnected mine and wired it out of place, and after just a few drives, I ditched it...I run 6"inches of lift on 38's...no problem so far...

One exception to the above. The nose does dive slightly more under hard braking.

Hmmmm...... how could a sway bar affect how much "dive" you get under braking?? :D

maybe since its more of a solid connection, it also acts like a traction bar, keeping the axle from twisting when you jam on the brakes. I know the toyota solid axles have a small traction bar on the driverside for this very reason.

Well since the sway bar is a solid link to the frame, and the axle is trying to move in a slight arc when you compress the leaves (actually so does the sway bar, but it is a different arc especially with lifted trucks) the suspension is trying to strech and compress the bar which results in binding.

A properly designed sway bar doesn't bind... sway bar setups with droplinks at the ends won't bind either.

If somehow you had a setup wtih SO much binding that it prevented brake dive, you would destroy the endlink bushings, pivot bushings or simply tear the sway bar mounts off the frame in short order. The truck would drive horribly too....It's not the kind of you could ignore, there would be some obvious handling / steering issues.

Which is exactly what happens with the SFA Chevy sway bar. It's a bad design if you have ANY lift above normal ride height.

x2 Which is also why the ORD disconnect is designed to pivot
