Swettysblazer's 1991 K5 Trazer: ONE TONS!

Well thats what they make 35 spline outer's for... :haha:

But, You get to "beat the dog piss" outta yer stuff, before it happens.
I can't.

I actually just got off the phone from ordering a set of 35 spline outers before I posted that. With lockouts, that is going to add around $500 to the cost of a Dana 60. Oh well.

I'm not switching my 10 bolt until I find if I will actually break the axles. I have the extra shafts to get home on. I think The body mounts will be a big enough project to keep you busy. I was sure overwhelmed quickly enough after digging into them.

I know guys running 38" tires in the sand on ten bolts and have no problems with them. Its very forgiving. But if i was runnin rocks no way that would last very long without dumping the same amount of money you could in 1 ton stuff. And brian if your gonna trim, please take some time and make it look decent, for me haha. I think it looks so crappy when theres just that angle cut off both ends of the wheel wells.

Alot of the dependability of an axle is based on user input, I have a heavy right foot so I like the dependability of the 60, and I carry a few u joints and outers for my 60 when I’m out. With that said, I ran a 44/14ff combo for years with no problems, it had all oem spicer shafts and spicer super joints, and I regularly wheel rocks in PA on 37” pitbull rockers. I never had breakage issues until i locked the front. Once I was locked I had breakage regularly (always the passenger side outer). But the locked front also gave me the capability to run the harder trails I wanted to, which increased the stress on the axle. After buying the 60, the locker, steering arms, gears, rebuild kits, driveshaft modification, unbolts and installation, I should not have wasted my money on the 44. so, if you do plan on eventually locking the front and hitting more difficult terrain, , just purchase the 60 now to save yourself the aggravation of gearing and building up a 10 bolt.

and if you still want to run a 10 bolt, i have a 3/4 ton setup matching front and rear for $400. truck has steel rims and 33's with great tread from a truck im parting out!:D

Messed up my back, so not a lot has gotten done on the truck between that and work and the girlfriend....

Gonna order a set of body mounts soon and maybe go with a 1 inch body lift, not too sure yet.

I screwed it up a while ago and i had to throw 600 hay bales on Saturday so that didnt help...

Ditto

Break them free with a ratchet not an impact gun.

Thanks guys. Hopefully by tonight she'll be all ready to go!

Just a quick question though to see if anyone has run into an issue with this...
I have a transfer case drop on my truck and since I'm putting the body lift in, will this create any issues with the body lift? I think I read something on here that if you have a body lift the drop will cause some issues....

You may have to adjust the linkage for the t case, since 208's/ 241's have the base that attaches to the floor, the increased distance to the case it self could make the rod from the shifter to the t case a bit short. IIRC there is adjustment on the rod at the t case end.

How much body lift are you doing ?

One inch... but I'm thinking with the shot mounts and the lift its going to be about an 1.5"-2"

Ok, I thought you were doing a 1", I think the real problems arise when people drop the case and put a big BL on (3"), you may have to adjust the rod out a bit (longer) maybe not . Maybe mark the orientation of the shift rod on the case before and see if it moves any afterwards, and check to make sure you can shift it to all ranges properly before you call it done :D

I disconnected both linkages tranny and tcase before I jacked my body up as to not stress anything. My tcase linkage went back on with no adjustment so I am guessing you will have to adjust it a little but be fine. My trans linkage was close to the end but still worked properly.

This thing busted my ass all day... I didn't get the truck done and it had to stay at the shop. Going back tomorrow after work to get it done.

Yeah, that can be a ****ty job. I left my Suburban sit all of last summer half way done before I went back and finished it.

I'm never doing that again. 22 years of New Jersey salt and crud is not worth it. The tailgate literally fell off the truck, and the rear body mounts don't have a lot of metal to grab. I'm ****ing done. I got in at 1 this morning after another 8 hour wrench fest yesterday after work. Had to make a couple cup washers and some other little stuff so it took some time, but its all back together. The truck definitely rides a little better, but I'm not too sure if it was worth 16 hours worth of work.
