Teck's '86 K5 Build -5.3 LS/4L65E swap

Was that your drag link up there with the bends and gussets?

Rene

That is how we made crossover steering 20 some yrs. ago for it.

It was made from a solid tie rod, bent, gussets then sent out to be heat treated. Drove it several yrs like that, with no issuses

Now that I see it installed, I stand by my previous comment. Nothing personal, just doesn't look too safe to me.

Later,
Buddy

I understand there is better stuff out there now, but I really don't want to spend alot extra on that 10 bolt front. If I find a 60 after I get it running I will probably change it. It worked fine back then, so for what I'm going to do with it I think it will be ok for now. It's not going to see near the abuse it did when I was in my 20'S,and it held up.

Also have talked to my friend about doing hydro assits at some time. So changing it is down the list of things for after I get it running.

I undrestand what you are saying Rene. I just cann't seem to bring myself to spend much money on that 10 bolt. Would much reuther just wait and get a 60 later and do something then.

This build has not been cheap to do, so I have been trying my best to plan stuff so I'm not doing thing over and over wasting more money then I have to.:doah:

I will spend 2 grand to get the motor in before I will spend anything on that damn 10 bolt stuff.:haha:

I hear ya, I was more curious why you powdercoated it.

Someone has to bust your balls a little for that drag link :waytogo:

If it will make you feel better I'll post up some pics of my rear blocks I'm running right now. :haha:

Rene

It's not powdercoated, the parts in that pic were just painted black.

now comes the fun part, bolting all the goodness together!

Yup, but first we have to buff the top of the frame. Got some overspray on it when they fliped it over to touch up the bottom. Man they are hard to paint and get it all nice.

I had early learning on that stuff back in the resto shop..... mixer frames with a 5 gallon pressure pot and Imron..... :haha: there are definite "orders" to which way you paint ANYTHING! :deal:

We decided it would have been easier to just build something to hang the frame from, so it would be high enough to spary it all at on e time.

2 saw horses... start with it upside down... hit everything... flip it over... repeat...

Here's how we set it up the first time.

It was when they painted the bottom the top got some overspary. They buffed most of it off today. good thing is most of the top will not show when it is back under the bottom.

even when leaving it rightside up the whole time like that, you ALWAYS leave the top surface for last... start at the bottom and work your way up so to speak...

the nice aspect of a single stage gloss frame is it will clean up well forever....

Damn brian looking good! This is a true labor of love considering the history u have with that truck. I cant wait to see it finally running. You owe us a video for that one.

Just got in from a late night at the shop, but made some good progress.
Got the frame back under the body with the new 1" body lift.
Then installed the leaf springs. also got the gas tank and tank shield installed.
