Teck's '86 K5 Build -5.3 LS/4L65E swap

This is part of the reason my build seems to take so long to get very far. spent half the day cleaning bolts and studs on the wire wheel, so I could get them painted. Can say that wire wheel is hard on the fingers after awhile.

Some days I wonder if I haven't just lost my mind on how I'm going about this. Might finish sooner if I wouldn't clean and paint parts that will really never show much.:doah:

Cleaning more parts today.

Looks great. Obviously, at this point your keeping the 10B front..??...

Yes for know.
I considered putting a D60 under mine, but I never plan to do more than just cruise around, which a 10B with good bearings/ball joints is plenty adequate for that job. There is definantly some cool factor to having a 60, but really all a guy is doing is just adding dead weight if no wheeling is planned.:dunno:

And $$$$

I would have to agree, Its amazing how much abuse a 10bolt can take at times, and at other times they seem to break just by putting it in 4WD.

Yup, this Blazer will probably never see the abuse, for the need for a 60. This 10 bolt saw alot of abuse back in the day and held up so it should be just fine. Everything in it still looks like new(posi & 5.13 gear), so a good clean up, paint and new seals is what it is getting now.

Got most of the parts back from powdercoating. :D
Here is the 14 bolt housing.

The dash pad was on back order that I order , so I got them to price match the factory GM pad $96.95 off $399.00 instead of $495.95.
The dash trim was not GM and does not look right so it is going back.

Teck, Beautiful restore!! Love watching your progress.

Flashback.......When you received the dash trim that didn't look right are you talking about the bezel around all the gauges or the silver insert strip with the two AC vents on passenger side? I just ordered the OEM dash from them but opted not to get the passenger trim piece as my original one is fairly decent. If the passenger strip looks good in your opinion, I may just pay the $100 to get it. However, they don't have the dash bezel for the 89-91 era with the larger radio cut-out.

A pair of vise grips on the bolt head work great.
