Teck's '86 K5 Build -5.3 LS/4L65E swap

:haha::haha:

Thanks

Next time, let me know you are coming this way and maybe you can come check it out.

Ohh i shall

Im with you on the diff covers. I like the fabricated look, especially for your build. Chrome is chintsy and played out. They look like VatoZone $19.99 managers specials. I guess if you keep 'em, sine chrome stick-on fender vents would tie it all together. Maybe a monster energy sticker..... ;)

Wow Teck, just WOW!
Finally got through your whole thread and I need to clean the drool off my keyboard...

Just a few questions:

What kind of a trans tune did you do? In your videos it sounds like it shifts to 2nds way too fast.

Also why run the exhaust out the rear? Doesn't it fume real bad with the top off or back window down?

Sorry if I messed up your keyboard.:haha::haha:

Stock tune on the trans. I just had it built for more power.
It will shift very hard if I get on it hard.
It does shift quick, but I think that is more because of the 5.13 gears then the tune.

The exhaust was never a problem. I don't drive much with the back window down. And it was never a problem with the top off

Did you mention that you had efi live? If so up the line pressure a bit and raise the shift points. Makes for a much more enjoyable driving experience and improved tranny life.

Also I can't tell from your pics but is there a mass air flow sensor on your air intake tube?

Yes there is a mass air flow sensor in front of the air filter.

I do have EFILIVE. I need to get someone to help me tune it better.
I bought it for my Duramax. So I know some about diesel stuff but not enough about gas stuff. Should just take the time to crash coarse it and learn what I need to do to tune. Talked to one place and they wanted $500.00 to do it

Its easy to mess it up if you don't know what you're doing. It'd be best to have a tuner go through it with you so you can learn and make future adjustments on your own.
I paid $250 to have my '00 Tahoe street tuned and I'm very happy with the results. The tuner doesn't like to dyno trucks because some have a tendency to spit driveshafts at 140mph... :eek1: Besides do you really want your 38"s spinning that fast? :screwy: But on the other hand My Camaro was $450 for a street and full dyno tune. Those are about average prices for reference. I can recommend some email tuners that will hook you up with a custom tune for your setup if you'd rather go that route.

Teck's K5

I am more amazed every time I go through this thread.

Are you going to show your K5? I am not familiar with that world, but your truck is more pristine than any of the cover trucks I used to drool over in middle school (offroad, fourwheeler, etc).

I have heard decent things about texas speed back when I was trying to build the 496.

Thanks Cliles, I may show it some but I really just rebuilt it to enjoy, after it had been apart for so many years.
It did turn out nicer then I planed on it or thought it would.:doah:

I may need to call them.
I really just need make time to work on the tuning.
It runs ok it but I'm sure it would be a lot better after a good tune.

Would love to see TECK K5 in person

I live in Arlington... Someday, I'll be trying out the LQ4 swap on my truck. I'd like to see some of the details in person, before I get started.

Your K5 is truly amazing!

Fixed the vibration I had this week. Sure did make it more enjoyable to drive.
Got some work ahead of me after these new parts came today. Hopefully this will fix the wind noise from the old ones I changed the seals on.IMG_2439.jpg
