Teck's '86 K5 Build -5.3 LS/4L65E swap

I know all too well about those "surprises" that can hinder a restore. It will be a time machine when its all done so just take your time and dont short yourself in the money department in the meantime.

On another note, I know you had a long road in upholstering your seats. PM me if your guy wants to do a set of saddle colored ones...same molding as yours. I have gone to 2 different upholstery shops here in Des Moines and no one wants to touch this job.

Yes factory color and pattern. After reading about the hassles you went through trying to get the quality you did I am saying uncle after 2 tries here in the Des. Obviously I would have shipping costs but your seats turned out so good its worth the extra.

Not alot has happened lately. Finally got some of the rear disk brake parts to the powder coat shop, should be done this week. Motor has been taken apart for rebuild, and part are going to the machine shop, waiting on new crankshaft. Just need to figure out the other engine parts for rebuild. Also need to take the tranny house back to my tranny guy to get the stuff put back in it.

Hope to get some progress on it soon now that it will be cooling off some. But then hunting season starts, so not much time to work on it.

Powder Coating and painting Drivetrain

Got the rear brake parts back and they looked so good it made the rest look really bad. So now the rear end is out and rear springs are off, to get cleaned up. Called the powder coat shop about the rear springs and could not believe how cheap the price was they quoted me was. So now I,m motivated to get the springs done now. I think I may just paint the frame and axle housings for now and powder coat everthing else I can. They also said they could do the core support, gas tank and gas tank shield

Ordered ez rate's and greasable bushing from ORD today should be here Monday.

I'm always amazed how cheap powdercoating tends to be..

glad to hear things are moving along.. :D

Always assumed it was more.
Just glad to get something going on it again after a long hot summer.
If I can get the ruuning gear cleaned and painted in the next couple of months, there may be and end in sight for it to be back on the road again after all these years.

Damm, those Diy4x brake caliper brackets look so good powdercoated. . I've never seen them done before. Very nice!!

i dont think powder on a leaf spring, or any flexible object for that matter, is a good idea.
i would powder the axle housings and hubs etc. for sure.

Frame getting ready for paint

About to have the frame out from underneath the body. Talk with a guy that does soadblasting, said he could do the frame and anything else I could drag out in the parking lot in a couple of hours or so. Shooting to get this done next weekend if all goes as planned. Then it will go straight to paint and/or powdercoat. :D

Looking forward to the pics. I cheeped out and just used a heavy coat of "rust ender" and a couple coats of gloss black rustoleum on my undercarriage.

What color? Black?

just be aware that sodablasting is pretty damn fine... doesn't leave much etch to the metal.. you may wanna run over the big sections with a sander before primer...

Thanks for the info, I will if my painter thinks we need to.
