Teck's '86 K5 Build -5.3 LS/4L65E swap

A small update.
I have been to busy with work and also to hot to work on the blazer the last 2 months.
Got the front end back tonight, gears are in and the cylinder is mounted. Know I just need to clean it up for paint so i can get it back under there if it will cool off some.

Very nice product at a very good price. Looks like they can make all kind of cables and shifter stuff.:thumb:

Looks good Teck. Would you mind sharing the dimensions for your new E-brake cables. My existing, for 10B, are about three inches too short with the ends being about 3 inches too long, spring section, from the anchor to mounting tab.

You need to go to there web site, it has a page with a chart on how to measure for what you need. Then call Vick and he will walk you through all the measurements. (562-949-0455)

We did all my measurements over the phone, so i don't have all of them written down.
The housing lengths are 48" on the driver side and 56" on the passenger side.
Mine has 8" springs with zero rates for a total of 9" of lift so they could be a little long with less lift.
I can measure the amount of cable coming out of the housing on the old one if that will help.

Front axle is almost ready to be bolted back in, then I can get the wheels and tires back on and start on the motor.

Been reading up on what it will take to do an LS3 swap lately.
So I ordered a new gas tank and sending unit from Classic parts for fuel injection. Also ordered motor mounts from Dirty Dingo.

Hope I'm make the right choice going this route on the motor.

Are you going to do a 6l80e? I really want to follow this route. Its not swapping the motor/trans that scares me, or the wiring. Its all the little things like making your factory AC controls work.

No I'm staying with the 700R4 as of now. Don't want to change that. that would mean moving everything, new output shaft to mate to the 205, cable shifter for 205, new driveshaft's, just to start.

Want to just get the motor done now. If it won't hold up I will look in to that later.

I'm taking this one step at a time.

As for ac I haven't seen anything saying it should be a big deal. Should just need vacuum and wire to engage the compressor.

Which computer are going to use to control the motor? If you use the old style 24x I think (gen3 computer) you will need a box to convert the reluctor signal to something the computer can use. If you use gen4, good luck with the ac. I have read the ac sign is transferred by the canbus and so there is no easy way to tell the computer the ac is fixing to kick on, and it will probably do some weird idle things. I'm really interested in this because it is the way I want to go as well

Getting an 2007 genIV 5.3L motor this weekend, so I can move forward on my project.Still want a 6.2L but have not been able to find one yet. My guy said he would keep looking for one, so I can just change it out later if I want. This will let me get closer to getting it back on the road, work out all the problem I may run across. I have a friend that said he would be interested in the 5.3 if I did pull it out.

So now the fun begins making this work.

Please please please post details as you do this!! I'm not worried about making the trans work, but trying to get the minor things work is the difference. Which computer are you going to use? The PCM for the gen4 or gen3 motors? Also, if/when you get the 5.3 worked out, the 6.2 should drop right in, change the tune, and off you go.

I have a friend that lives in Mansfield, sometime when I come up to visit I would love to see your blazer. Its so well done and the attention to detail is awesome
