Teck's '86 K5 Build -5.3 LS/4L65E swap

they finally started putting DBW steering and throttles in the boats a few yrs back.. it's ok by me, beats replacing control cables...
 
so, is there something complicated about putting in a DBW pedal assembly that I'm not aware of? it doesn't "sound" hard, after everything else thats been done to get this motor working.
 
Not really. Its fairly straight forward. Just requires some modification to the pedal to get it to mount up and be in the right spot. Then you also have to mount the pedal module. Whatever that thing is called.

:gulp: Bet that was a decent chuck of change! I cant wait until i can afford to do stuff like that! I dont think you will regret it though. I like the way they do their header collectors.
 
They were not cheap, but they were the only ones I have found that are suppose to fit without have to modify anything for them to fit. Did not want to grind on my frame to make any fit. I did order the v clips on the collector so i can turn them how ever I need to for the O2 sensors.

Everything I have read about them says they are a very good quality product.

I had heard that you can use a pedal from a late 90's diesel truck and it will bolt right into these trucks, so I picked one up. Here is a comparison of my stock 74 k5 pedal (middle) compared to the diesel pedal (left) and a 2004 yukon xl pedal (right). The yukon pedal is offset to the left and sticks way to far out compared to the stocker. The dbw pedals have 6 wires for three actual sensors. The diesel pedal just needs re pinned to the gas pedal plug. You pair up the wires and match them to the sensors on the gas truck pedal. Pedal bolts right in.

I read that the diesel pedal will bolt right in, but also read that there is problem with not have a matching pedal. They are not compatible with the new TAC so they don't work right.
 
Hmmmmm. I know that it will work with the dbw on the 8.1L. I will get my meter out this weekend and compare the sensor reading between the two pedals and see what the difference is.

thanks for posting the pics icehouse. that helps to see what we're talking about. afa the bolt in thing goes, that doesn't work for me anyway, since I have a 1st gen. I assume its different, but haven't looked.

teck: so you plan on modding the something similar to the pedal on the right?

(oh, and icehouse, nice socks :P )
 
This is the one that is in my 07 express van, I also have one I got with the motor out of an 07 Avalanche it has a lot more curve to it. So I'm try to get one like is in the van, I think it will be much easier to mount in the correct place.IMG_1113.jpg

Damn good looking truck! I love that color. It looks a lot like my paint color. Looks like you did a great job putting the truck back together.
 
Talked to the powdercoat shop today, last piece was being finished today. Hope to pick up the parts tomorrow.
 
Got a little time to start putting it back together.
