Teck's '86 K5 Build -5.3 LS/4L65E swap

Well had cold air tell I pulled it out of my buddies shop. Then the F'N new AC delco condenssor blow out and I watch all the freon go up in smoke. No more cold air.:sign27::sign27:

hey, btw, to replace the carriage bolts with nuts n washers.... for your body bolts, how did you get a nut and washer up on the top of it?

also, do you have a picture of the vent you used? was it a motorcycle style vent for the gas tank vent tube?

I had just cut the old bolts to get the out, but I did have a 3"body lift.
Get someone to help and use vise grips to hold the top of the bolt while the other loosen the bolt from the bottom. the I just used big enough washer on the new bolt to cover the hole in the floor. I did install a 1" ORD body lift that came with bolt instead of carriage bolts, Just don't remember if it came with the washers I used or if I had to get some.

It's just a breather filter from O'riellys, and some fuel line hose. I did put it right on the tank but it was able to purge fuel out of it with a full tank.

Need to figure out someplace better for the fuel tank vent.
Need to get a new recovery tank for the radiator. The new one I bought when building has a leak in the seam of it. Retorqued the front springs and ubolts because I was hearing some popping noises, did seem to help it, also feels a little tighter. Just trying to get all the little bugs out of it.

Stating to run better even without retuning it yet. It was spinning the tires when shifting into 2nd gear today. And the exhaust sure does sound good when I get on it.:D:D
Just get more comfortable with it as I drive it more, only has about 200 miles on it now.

By chance is the leak on the overflow tank coming from the nipple the hose connects to?

Nope it's in the seam. Ordered a new one form Classic Parts today, because they wouldn't replace it, because I bought it in July of 07.
That is the bad thing about how long this build has taken, parts are out of warranty before I have even used them.

I move the vent for the fuel tank tonight too.the other was just to see that it worked.

New condenser should be here Wednesday.

Got the new condenser in today and got the AC charged. Haven't been to the shop to see how cool it is yet. Will see in the morning when I go to put on the new dual fans on that come today. They told me last week that the fan I had on there with all the cooler was not moving enough air for the AC.

Hope this fixes that problem.

Got the fan set up installed. Had to make the mounting bracket because the brackets that come with it were to universal for me to use.

Need some adjust on the temp set up but seem to be working good.
AC is blowing cold air now, 96 outside and it was blowing 44.

Looks real good, hows the shroud coverage of the radiator? Are you using the ecm to control the fans?

The fans cover real good about the same width as the radiator. About an inch short at tyhe bottom. The old fan was wired to a relay that I think goes to the ECM. Call the guy that helped me with the wiring to find out how it was wired just waiting to hear back from him.

The flex fan set up came with a variable speed control set up, has an AC hook up, temp prob, and the ability to wire over ride switches to it to turn them off. Really nice set up.

Whered you get the fans?

Had to top off the AC after installing the new fans. Freon was a little low. It was 101 outside and the air was blowing between 40 and 44 degrees

So after some adjustment on the fan controls the fans come on around 185 degrees at 60% and and go up to 100% at 195 degrees or when the AC is turned on, seem to be cooling great. The AC is blowing around 40 degrees at the vents. Very happy with how it turned out. Here is a pic of the engine bay with the AC compressor on and the new fans installed. And at this point I think I'm about done with all the wiring.
