Teck's '86 K5 Build -5.3 LS/4L65E swap

The M/T are about 20 years old and are not balance at all sense I took all the wheel weights off when I polished the wheels a few years ago. They shake bad now.

New tires should be great.

Dangit! Well what now?

Put them in the sun and hanging them to get the sidewalls to give. Maybe to tomorrow they will get them seated. They should have pulled them out when order them but the damn as**s waited till I got there to get them out.

it's those wide a** wheels I have. I really don't want to buy new ones.

wow... I'm not big at all on superwide tires at all... but boy, i do love a super single!! :woot:

A buddy who's a Porsche tech showed me this one when we couldn't get some used BFG's to seat on some wider wheels. They do this to mount some of the super wide lo pro tires on wide wheels.

Once the tire is on the wheel push it against the front of the rim leaving the big gap in the back, buy some cheap tubes for a 16" kids bike, using LOTS of VERY SOAPY (we used half and half water and dawn) put a little air in the tube then stretch it over the rim so it is in-between the tire and the wheel , filling the gap. Air up the tube until it is large enough to fill the gap then begin to inflate the tire. As it begins to take air it will push the tube out, as it get close to seating you will have to tug on the tube to get it all the way out.
You may tear up one or two tubes doing this but it does work like a champ, takes 2 people for sure but once the first one works the next ones go way faster.

I Oh so wish they weren't that wide now but they where perfect for the Mickey Thompson's.

I just cann't bring myself to buy new weld wheels (17 x 10 or 12 ) at $600.00 each.

I loved the look of my 16.5x14 Welds on 35x16 Boggers, but I didn't much like anything else about them. It takes a lot of power to roll big wide tires and rims down the road. I finally bit the bullet and got rid of them after finding a set of 16x10 Weld Mountain Crushers on some 36x14.50 STS Trxus radials. Smooth, quiet, easier steering, and quicker from 0-60mph. Fuel mileage went up and I even saw my engine temp running a bit cooler.

They were never a problem with the 5.13 gears. Power was always fine. I bet the milage would be better with something narrower.
