Terry's Quad Thread

Picked up a used Warn 2.5CI winch a few weeks ago. I pulled it apart this weekend, cleaned the mud out and regreased it.

I also found an OE Suzuki winch mount plate on ebay and mounted the winch up.

Yesterday, just as I got the winch bolted in, the battery went bad. So bad, so fast I actually pulled the starter this morning to check it out. With it back on, I checked the solenoid pack and only one direction would work. Pulled it apart and one of the coil windings had broken off of the connection board. There was enough lead left to solder it back on and now it works fine.

After that I mounted and wired the solenoid and switch up. The bike came pre-wired for a winch so the only cables I had to actually run were from the battery to the solenoid pack.

Then with a new battery, tested everything. It all works great and should be ready to ride.

Took everyone except Blondie out riding today. We did about 27 miles.

I think it's time to try some new trails. We still had a good time but somewhere without all the water breaks would be more fun.

Got the Big Bear stripped down. Selling off the parts. If anyone needs anything for a 1997 Big Bear 350 4x4, give me a shout.

Now that the Big Bear is in parts, I can get started on this 2001 Kodiak. First thing was to strip off those horrible faded camo pajamas it was wearing. The plastics seem to be in good shape for the age. It's dirty but I want to get it running before getting too invested in it.

The carb is full of junk and appears to be a Chinese replacement unit. I'm going to clean it up and hopefully it'll start and run well enough to evaluate the rest of it.

I don't know if this will be a keeper or sell it off just yet. Have to see.

Ok, just spent the first $120 or so on this thing. Ordered a Chinese carb and intake boot, the o-rings for the rocker covers and cam gear cover, petcock and some random missing body bolts.

After cleaning the carb and reassembling it, it started and idled but wouldn't rev. Pulled it apart, found and sealed a crack in an air passageway, swapped choke and main fuel jets. After that it wouldn't start at all. Pulled it and swapped back, now it will not idle or really rev but you have to hold the throttle open more than the idle adjustment screw will turn in to keep it running. Just ordered a $35 China unit from the same company I got the carb on the Moto4 from.

Just trying to get it more or less running so I can check the rest of it out.

This Kodiak is really trying my patience.

I've completely rebuilt the brakes, except the front master cylinder which it still needs.

It's been difficult to start about every time I've wanted to run it.

Today it completely lost power for about 20 minutes and inexplicably got it back.

And now, even though the winch cables will light a test light and show battery voltage when you work the winch switch, neither of my two winches will run when hooked up.

No more Yamaha.
