The 2nd one - it runs!

Purple 72 I picked up from a junkyard
First repair that needs to be done, is getting a key for it. I can replace the lock cylinder, but I can't get it out without drilling it. I ran across this post:

I'm going to try pulling the lock if I have time tomorrow and see if there are numbers. It would be nice if I can just get a key made.
A mobile locksmith can come over and cut you keys without you taking the truck apart. I had keys made for 2 previous trucks that way. For the money I was thrilled I didn't have to do anything

Hmmm, I'll have to make a call and see how much it is.

How worn down does the ignition look? Did you try the key from your other blazer? Worth a shot if you hadn't tried already.
yeah, I tried every GM key I could find. I was actually kinda surprised none worked. The lock must be in pretty good condition.

For $30 you could replace the ignition switch and lock cylinder. no drilling required.

You'd still have to drill it to get the old one out. You need a key to pull the old lock cylinder.

Not if you replace the switch and put in a new cylinder

Hmmm, for some reason I was under the impression that you couldn't get the switch out with the lock cylinder in place. It's been awhile since I've done it though. I'll take a look. :D

Jeez wish I was cool enough for a first gen.... but congrats what a good find!

I guess that I don't know the trick for getting the switch out of the dash without a key or some destruction, because of that little tab inside.

Nice score @ashman !

I was able to get the ignition switch and lock cylinder out. As I remembered, the ignition switch is supposed to keep the ignition switch bezel from being able to fully release without removing it, but I was able to screw it out most of the way, then just break the lock cylinder to get it the rest of the way out.

I got a chance to take a few more pics and there is some good stuff and bad stuff.

rear hatch is in great shape! All the pieces are there and I should be able to get it working once it's lubed up a bit and put back together.

Once I get a new lock cylinder and get it running, I'll put it up on the lift and get some pics from underneath. I need to pull up the carpet still and get a look at the floors, but it has all of the original sill pieces so I can't just flop it back. Floors do feel solid when I bang on them though, so I'm hopeful.
