Bought me a 78 3/4 ton, th400 np203 dana 44 front corp 14 rear, 4.10 gears. 16.5 skinny wheels and 8.75 tires. Has some extensive body rust, but factory tilt, am radio, air con cab, dash pad looks decent but isnt perfect. Dual tanks as well.

Kinda odd though, has gas caps rather than gas doors, i thought 78 was the first year to have a door instead of a cap? But i think i did well.

third thing was on the tailshaft of the transfer case, but the two round objects were on a crossmember between the frames behind the tcase by a foot or so, it was twin tanks so maybe something relating to them?
 
not as bad as i thought for the extensive rust damage quote.what're the plans?if it runs and moves id say good job on the price.
 
The third thing on the tailshaft looks like where the speedo cable goes.
 
k that solves one mystery item haha, i think the other two are something dealing with twin tanks.

It doesnt run, but needs a starter, we are hoping the motors not too tired out or the timing chains not broken, but worse come to worse we have a spare 78 motor identical to this one that needs a cam (its the spare motor to my 77 2wd). If it comes to that then ill get a summit k1102 cam kit and call it good. The th400/np203 and 4.10 gears make 460 worth it to me.
 
As for plans, need to get it running first, whatever it needs. Then im debating on things, cause i would love to do the rust repair on my 2wd 77 and make it a 3/4 ton 4x4.......:hack:

Fix the cab rust on my 2wd, put the cab and the rust free clip on this frame, find a nice rust free bed.

But for now just gonna play with it as is i believe.

Is there anything special to do when changing the transfer case from low to hi? I assume put the trans in park first, but never had really have driven a 4x4 excluding the 76 on our farm.
 
Borrowing brothers truck (02 f250 w/ heavily modded 7.3) and my uncles trailer to go get it tommorow. Its 78 3/4 wide in the front, and dads trailer is 75 3/4 wide, and uncles trailer uses a 7 blade rv style and neither my dads 73 c20 or my 77 c10 are setup for the 7 blade rv style.

Its got a ton of rust, but good thing someone used an old fuse panel door to fix the drivers side :haha:
 
Well its in the driveway now, sitting right behind the k5 (Great, another imobile vehicle behind the k5 :haha:)

Found a mouse nest under the seat, fooker scared me, i thought i might find a live one. If there are any survivors the junkyards cats will get them :haha:

Also, has factory rear tow hooks i believe :D

Thought this guy was alive, it spooked me. Im not normally scared of mice, but when i see a nest looking thing under the seat, use a piece of wire and drag some of it out and i see his body roll, ya it spooked me :o

thats funny kansas i was goin to buy that truck for the axles until i found some different ones ......i was goin to call them friday for it ....sounds like we are goin to be compition on craigslist ...lol

Find any second gen camaro 10 bolt positracs let me know :D If you need something and i dont need it more :haha: ill keep an eye out for you as well.

really would like to find a lower mileage 3/4 ton for dad, either 2wd or 4wd, prefer it with a 4 speed granny, and 73-78ish. His old 73 2wd aint got much left.

yeah i found a dana 44 with a quick loc 14bolt 4.10 gears locker in rear axles wheels and tires for 300 :D.....i didnt want to mess with the truck haul and all that stuff i just needed a couple things off of it ...till i found the deal that im getting tommorrow ......:saweet:

was you talking smack ....couldn't tell .............all i wanted was the axles and scrap the rest to a junkyard to make the money back

Lol nah i was just saying that if you were looking for a particular part id keep my eyes out, but if its something i need and i find it first i might not tell ya about it lol. I dont like to talk smack over a keyboard, i dont even like talking smack in real life lol.
 
awesome i was hoping you wasnt one of those guys....:waytogo:..lol.......funny i would be the same first come.....but i was eye balling that truck till these axles came up for sale ......are you sticking those axles under the blazer.....have you been to kansas rocks.......how was it ???
 
I think im gonna find a 14 bolt semifloat 4.10 gears and throw a locker in it, and either a dana 44 or 10 bolt 4.10 front both six lug and throw it under the k5 when i get to that point, seeing as i have brand new 32/11.50/r15s and it would make a pretty good daily driver as is, being rust free and all.

Id like to do the rust repair and body work on my 77 2wd then swap cabs onto this frame, the 77 was my first truck, and i never really wanna retire it or let it go. Plus, compared to this 78, my 77 c10 is rust free :D (its not rust free but not nearly as bad as this one). Then find a rust free bed since my front clips a rust free clip off a 77 2wd 3/4.


First thing i think im gonna do is get it running and find a usable hood. dad pulled the starter off when i was doing my online college classes and 3 of the starter's teeth were broken off, and the flywheel looked iffy, but hes gonna pull the inspection cover and see if its good enough to keep using. gonna be a beech to pull the trans and t case back in this one so thats last resort. Also thinking about tires, dont know if i should run a 235/85/r15 like ive got on my 2wd and dad has on his 3/4 or what. that no overdrive and 4.10s is not gonna be a highway rig.
