The $460 truck- Electrical gremlins (dash and interior lgihts)

Begin The tires saga

Right now the truck has 8.75x16.5s, about a 29 inch tire, they are dry rotted and need to go. More than likely im going to be using stock 16x7 or 16x8 steelies, and a 33 or so tire should help the 4.10 gears on the highway, and if i buy the tires im going BFG. But im torn between the At's, MT's, and the km2s and whatever else they offer. I want an E load range tire also.

Im usually run tall and skinnys, and i want great on road such as water, snow, occasionally ice, but wouldnt mind something that would do well down on the farm or wherever else i get into some mud. What are the common metric sizes that newer trucks use that give about a 33" tire?

Oh, and no lift right now, 35s may clear due to the heavy duty suspension (and rust lol), but i think 33s would fit without any issues, and a 34+ may hit.

Im thinking 285/75/r16 is the size i want to use, about a 33" tire, and use between a 7-9 inch wheel. Im also considering mickey thompsons as a buddy has them and likes them, but they didnt have an E range listed on summit.

D load range, but good looking tire, and if you watch the 2nd video at the bottom, they sound like a really good tire, just not an E load range!

My dad runs 235/85/r16 coopers, E load range, not the same style as that. If he buys the tires before i do thats probably what he will get, but 31's and 4.10s wont be very highway friendly so hopefully if he does wanna buy me some tires ill talk him into more of a 255/85/r16 or a 285/75/r16.

I run a set of Widetrack Baja MT's in a 305/70/16. They are a 33", load range E, and are a fantastic tire that is street friendly and very long wearing. IIRC, they were less than $200 each from a firestone. Maybe a little wide for a stock steel wheel, but the 16x8 outlaw II style wheels (what I also have) seem to be everywhere for cheap. I also imagine they are available in a 285/75.

Off subject of the tires, but how am i supposed to have a running/driving 4x4 and only 1 working headlight?

Pics or its not real right :D light underhood is dads flashlight.

did you get it runnin kansas . ....i got my axles today ....i love them ...cant wait till the weather warms up so i can put them in :saweet: does anyone know where i get the brake line that screws into the backing plate ona 14 bolt ???

were they the 44 and 14 and the 14 supposidly had a posi or locker for 450?

I need to get a detriot for this thing, but that will be this summer before i throw alot of cash in this, camaros gotta be done first, right now its just seeing what all it does, and it runs and drives! Swapping the carb from the blazer on it because they both use the same quadrajet (75-78 350 nonemissions with divorced choke). The po took the choke assembly off this one for some reason and the accelerator pump seems out. Also not running on all cylinders, dads gonna pull the plugs when im at class tommorow and check compression and put new plugs in. Its cold here though, wish we had a heated shop, then again dont we all lol.

The third thing on the tailshaft looks like where the speedo cable goes.

This actually a speedo correction gear.
It will be useless once you change the size of your tires.

And as you guessed the other is the dual tanks switch.

well they was supposed to be them ..then i found the same deal but with wheels and tires shocks and steering "old school hub caps" for 350 and he brought them to me a hour away no b.s i was like awesome....but i bet that guy will go down to atleast 350 or so .......anyone think i should rock the hubcaps ....i think i really like them .....??????

thats really kool that it runs ....it was weird when i saw you bought and i was looking at it ...small world .....i already wire brushed the 14 bolt doin the 44 tomorrow

Good deal on that setup c1090, 350 aint bad at all. For the blazer im still hoping a dana 44 with 4.10s pops up again, i saw one in paola but someone bought it before i could get down there. Then gonna try to find a 14 bolt via a budddy in the salvage business, semi float 6 lug. But thats gonna be for the k5 down the road.

And iceman, thanks for the conformation on that part, since i saw two near the tanks figured thats what it was for.

truck has 140 on 6 cylinders, 150 on the other two (5+7) so id say the motors good. Still has a slight miss, gonna change plug wires and check the cap, hopefully not the cam. Dad worked on the carb got it running better, didnt rebuilt it just put the choke back on. Runs and drives down the road, but them old tires are pretty square haha.

The third thing is a gear reducer for the speedo cable drive. As for the first two items, they appear to be electric fuel pumps but are too greasy and or rusty to be sure from the picture. If they have two wires running to them and a fuel line from the tank on one side with a fuel line going to the selector valve this is most likely the case. This was a common fix for vapor lock. NP203 you absolutely want to be at a dead stop before changing from Hi to Lo. There is a neat drill bit trick to readjust the shifter linkage if it does not want to shift ranges. The shifters for those transfer cases were built by Hurst.
I see you are from the Lawrence area, I live just north of Osage City. Always good to run into a local online.

If the truck already has 16.5' rims you may try a set of surplus HMMWV (Humvee) tires from the DRMO at Fort Riley. Sometimes these tires can be had for dirt cheap. A local farmer friend put a set on his very rusty(makes your truck look cherry) '73 sixlug with minimal rubbing. Don't quote me but I think they are 35" tall and are supposed t be good for 100K miles but I have never used them personally so I would do a little more digging. I have 34"x10.50" Swampers on my K5 and they only rub when I stuff a wheel hard while turning. I did a very little bit of fender trimming at the bottom and installed ORD zero rate add-a-leaf spacers at all four corners. The 34" tires and 4.10 gears feel like 3.73 gears with 31" tires.

ive got plenty of 16" wheels, looking for a set of used 285-75-r16s or 255-85-r16s to pop up, not a priority though. Need to get it running right first, 3 intake lobes are nearly gone, think im either gonna do an RV cam or a summit k1102 cam.

got about 4-6 inches of snow, was gonna go fart around, but the heater doesnt work very well so i cant thaw the ice off the windows :o

And you scrape off a thin layer, this thing has 2-3 inches of icesnow on it so maybe tomorrow lol.
