The $460 truck- Electrical gremlins (dash and interior lgihts)

if you find a open center one "hub cap" that you dont need let me know kansas

Will do.

My stock steelies aren't that wide. I don't remember the exact width, but I know it's less than 8. I wish I could find some wide ones, then run a set of the 70's style dog dish caps.

Ill measure mine when i take the old tires off and put new ones on, just dont know when that will be.

Why don't you look for used tires. Buying new tires for that truck seems ridiculous. I would just buy a set of used hummer tires and cut the wheel wells, it's not like the fenders are pristine or anything.

Been triyng to find used, nothing in the size i like, if anything i can swap these onto the k5 when i get it there, or the 77 if and when i build it, ill be keeping them around a while.

i have bought tires from tirerack and would do it again no questions asked. they were great and if you need any help with specials going on they will help

Glad to hear good reviews from them. Im looking locally because i like driving for a warranty instead of shipping, granted not too much warranty with tires lol.

I just bought a set of 4 31x10.5x15" BFG All Terrains for $260, mounted and balanced. Two were brand new take offs, one was 95%, and one was 70%. I put them on a $100 Blazer, and I felt bad spending that much on tires. Look around at tire stores and Craigslist. There is no point in paying for brand new tires on a truck that hardly runs and drives.

As i said before i got no problem buying these tires for this rig if need be. Im looking around for used. And as to the running comment, you should hear this baby purr, shes got at least 140 pounds of compression on every cylinder, carb needs a little cleaning still and the cap and rotor and wires need to be checked and possibly replaced. You barely noticed the worn down cam lobes. Ill get a video of me playing in the snow tomorrow :D

Alright guys, on this heater deal, replaced the old blower motor because it was almost seized up. But it still barely spins, but does get warm. We jumped from battery to heater blower and it spins nice and fast. We tried jumping the resistor but it still didnt change the speed, could it be the switch? or what else can i check. Some resistance readings i can check for with a tester would be nice to have for reference.

The defrost vents dont quite open up enough, but thats a vacuum problem, and ill be searching under dash for why they may not work right. Why cant everything be simple like my non ac truck

Replace the resister on the heater box. Thats was did it for me! Well, when I had a stock heater anyways.

bypassed it already, no change.

Theres also a 20amp fuse right above the heater fan fuse i think, in the area, that instantly blows when keys on. I dont know if its ac related maybe thats causing the problem, needs more investigation. Will do after i get out of class tomorrow.

Well dad figured out why the heater wouldnt blow on high, it was the rhiostat (spell check). Hers got a new one coming in for it. So that solves one of the issues.

Well the tires I got went on a perfectly running $100 truck, it went on all the trails I wanted including the Rubicon.
The tires and wheels served me on 2 vehicles for 6 years and then I sold them for $500.
:D

Whats I for in the fuse panel? We put a 20amp fuse (like it says on the panel) and it blows instantly. My 77 non air bare bones heavy half has the fuse and its in working order, so it must go to something....

I cant get any of the dash lights to work, the fuse tests fine for the test light, but no cab light, interior light (Tested with test light) and no cluster illumination. Any hints on what to check for?

heres the unmodified version of the diagram if anyone needs it. also noticed cargo light has its own fuse, so i geuss it not working is another ball game.

Realized J is the fuse to instrument cluster lgihts, i thought P was, J doesnt have any power to either side of the fuse, so any ideas why that might be?

well im special :o

I tested P (instrument panel feed) with the lgihts on, but not the dash illumination one (j), just went outside and tested it, and the dash light fuse is blown, so gonna change that tommorow (its extremely cold especially with the wind blowing.

And we think the other fuse may be related to the cig lighter, so gonna play with that tommorow as well.

When i cross these two, the heater fan works on high, but even with the new rhiostat it still only blows on low. We think its the switch, we have a new one ordered gonna get here tommorow. What a PIA the switch was to get out!

Edit: soaked the switch in some silikroil, played with it some more and it was the switch, the internal contacts must have a problem, but have a new one coming in the morning.

And the accesory fues didnt blow when we took off the cig lighter line, so theres some problem in there that needs to be sorted out.

new fan switch fixed everything! :D

Still need to figure out dash lights and etc. If anyones still watching this lol, need to change the fuse and keep playing with it.

And ya, to anyone who asks why im messing with this 400 dollar truck, im 19 nearly 20 and anything i play around with on this truck is just for practice and experience so i dont mess up a nicer one. Im young and stupid, and its better im young and mess something cheap up than anything nicer, to me at least.

I am not saying you shouldn't mess around with a $400 truck. I am saying you should look for cheap tires. My K5 cost me $100. I am running 4 "used" tires on it, that cost me $260.

It was just sitting there minding its own business and i forced it to pull the 77 3/4 ton around. Gonna use it to pull the 64 ton and a half wrecker out of its sinkhole as well.

Good plan, sometimes I look back at some of the hack job things I did and wonder how Im still alive.

Ive also learned to avoid the cheap mr gasket chrome junk like the plague. most of my teenage hacks involed that garbage:doah:

turn it to a stock mud class truck .....35 inches and less ....just a thought.....or just drive it .....just sayin cause it aint like you and your dad dont have what 40 some trucks around ...lol...just messin with you
