The Beige Jimmy

I can put it into any gear without using the clutch, same in all 4 positions on the transfer case, and the speedo seems to work when I out it in gear and let out the clutch, but I ain't moving.

It makes a gentle whirring noise if it's in 2nd or 3rd and I let out the clutch.

That’s strange that the speeedo is working because that’s on the output shaft of the t-case. You sure the driveshaft isn’t spinning?

And if all your drivetrain is stock, the rear axle should be the weakest link.
Ten bolts are pretty easy to pop. I blew one with a healthy 1-2 shift.

Yup, done that with a 4k clutch dump in my K10 with a sm465, 10bolts and 35's, (and a 305 lol) and lunched the spider gears. Driveshaft still spun. Unfortunately the spider gears got chewed up in the ring gear and broke some teeth.
Also the reason why I have a FF14B now haha.

Well boys, it's definitely a blown axle. The driveshaft was indeed spinning when in gear, so I put it in 4 hi and drove home in my FWD Jimmy.

This is a stock 1990 30 spline 10 bolt with 3.42s. Would it make sense to throw another axle shaft in this one or just swap in a whole nother rear end?

6 lug 14ff is an option.

If you didn't have an axle walk out on the drive home, it's something in the differential. As said, you will have to open it up to see.
A different axle assembly may be original, high miles and ready to die.
Depending on what broke could influence how to repair. If the ring and pinion is still good, it can save money.
I would either rebuild the current axle or swap to a 6 lug semi float 14 bolt. But this requires moving the spring perches and shock mounts.

Depends on how often you want to do those high RPM clutch dumps. :rotfl:

Oof, that's rough. Squarebody Ranch in Battle Ground might have a complete 10 bolt if you just want to swap and get back on the road.
