I really like the idea of a magnum box but us being a long bed a shorter shaft would be nice but that can also be done with a carrier bearing to get less angle.

Yours would work well, round pattern trans already. Not sure it would be much longer than your current setup. Plus you already have the needed planetary.
Certainly an option to be considered later
Completely agree, my truck is begging for a magnum if I ever get one. So far it's been a year and 1 month sense 4wd has been needed so I doubt it's on the list for years to come.

Other than price, no I don't believe so.

It's a machined case made by NWF that you install 241 or 208 planetaries into. You can mount it in a variety of t-cases, mine is in front of a 32 spline 205 so I now have a 5.33 double low.

Nope. I was pretty confident that you were backwards but I finally had time today to go measure my three trucks. I measured the distance from the rear end of the frame rail to the rear of the rear spring mount.
On the K5 I had 10" of frame sticking out behind the hanger.
On the K10 I had 12.5" of frame.
On the Suburban I had 24" of frame.
These are all stock 52" springs. I didn't measure the distance from axle to spring hanger but my understanding is that they are all the same.
It's not even close to the same, the Suburban has a bunch more room back there than the K5 does. And the 2.5" extra inches on the LWB isn't enough to cover the extra 6.25" of tank that this chart shows. So I could see running into clearance issues with a 40-gallon tank and a K10 with stock axle placement. There's room to push the tank back a little, but probably not enough. I don't have a 40-gallon tank to measure, so I hafta make some estimates here.
P.S. - I now understand why Suburbans make excellent candidates for bobbed rigs.
There's no way a 40 gallon will work on a K10, it's not even close.

Measuring from the back of my diff cover to the front of my bumper (which lines up with the rear of the frame), I have 36.5" in stock configuration. There is a crossmember in there. Someone had mentioned moving the axle forward, so more clearance could be created either there or by modifying the bumper. If you were willing to take the frame crossmember out AND create some more space via axle or bumper it should not be terribly hard to fit a 35" tank into a 36.5" spot. For someone unwilling to clear the cross member and create extra space, it's not going to happen.
The front of the K5 tank pretty much lines up with the back of the diff cover, if you managed to reverse the spring arch enough it looks like it would contact. But in stock location it is protected by the bump stops. From centerline of axle tube to rear of frame was 39" on the K5 and 41" on the K10 (had to use CL because the axles are different). Consistent with the 2" difference that I measured earlier.
Your forgetting about the skidplate, crossmembers & fuel tank straps, you won't fit a 35" tank in 36.5". Moving the axle forward is ass backwards, yes crossmembers move easily.
Like I said before, I still think the K5 frame is longer with the frame horns in the rear that the K10's don't have. I barely fit my tank, had to inboard my shocks in front of the axle and I have maybe an inch of frame behind my tank.
