Not a unicorn transmission, I’m not seeking an indestructible 4L60e

I want a gear between 1.7:1 and 1:1 without regearing both axles and buying new driveshafts
I know where you can find one, I don't know where to find that ratio.
 
Too bad you can't get a Ranger overdrive from Advance Adapters anymore. 27% overdrive you could split all the gears or just go third over before grabbing 4th. Plus you'd have the added bonus of going 4th/od.
 
Can still find them here and there. Still means doing shafts though.
 
Last one I found around here the guy wanted $2200 for it. Don’t see them too often

4L80E has a 1.48:1.

TCI has the 6X version, where they use the front OD gear (.75) to split every gear in the back (2.48, 1.48, 1, same gears as TH400)

Then you have 2.48, 1.86, 1.48, 1.11, 1, .75

Although I wonder about the life of the OD clutches in that scenario since they shift 3 times every time.

Is that done by programming alone or change of valve body?
 
They would have to change the valve body at least, maybe mod the case too. Because there are only 2 shift solenoids that make the 4 gear combinations, so there needs to be a mechanical/hydraulic change to control the OD clutch separately.

The torque converter lockup would feel like yet another gear at the end. You can easily change a couple hundred RPM or more depending on load with the converter lockup.

I always thought the underdrive version would have been more useful.

A Turbo 400 has a 1.48 2nd gear, and is not expensive... :D

I have no idea on the driveshaft length vs your current trans though...
