WIX has been the topic of much controversy since they got bought out. Apparently a lot of them aren’t even made in the USA anymore. I checked some boxes at o Reilly and a lot are Mexico…..I also am using k&n now
Been hoarding filters, these are 3-4 years old. Still have 3x more

Strap wrench is ok, sometimes there just isn't room to get in there right. I picked up some filter pliers somewhere and they sure are handy. They just grab well even at weird angles.
Agreed, them teeth bite!

Like these but mine are fixed, not adjustable.

Do you guys still smear a thin film of oil on the filter seal before installing by hand? I do that every time and haven't had one not come off thus far, sometimes I can still get it off by hand, but not usually. I typically use one of the metal filter band wrenches for removal. I tighten it snug by hand only, but it's probably more than a 1/4 turn past contact, the oil film lets the seal slide pretty easy during installation, and I feel like it doesn't bind up for removal. That's the way my father taught me when I was a kid.

Half the time I do, it just depends how much I let it drain. Most of the time the block has enough.

I like using ac delco filters or K&N with the socket.
