Hey guys, I've got an '87 350tbi K5 and I'm about to pull off the rusted/leaky stock exhaust system and run 3" true duels. I have a new set of full length Hedmann headers to go on it but I'm wondering what would be the best mufflers to use? I want to them to be really loud but not too tinny sounding. I guess I'd like the least amount of muffler as possible, but its gotta be street legal so I need mufflers. Thanks guys!

I dont' like glasspacks anymore, they were the sh!t when I was a kid, but no so anymore...super 40's aren't terrible loud and they control the sound well I think....if you want loud check out the obnoxious mufflers Deuling runs...

To each his own but why the desire for "really loud" (87 tbi )? I save that for my music which... I can turn down when appropriate/necessary...

So you can give the rapblasters a good sound at the gas pump when they think everyone needs to listen to their sh!t with them.

Single chamber flo's with 5x24" tips. Not crazy loud, but will be loud and throaty....

Ummm ok. The only "rap blasters" I encounter are rare and not worth making "my rig" obnoxious to me or others 99% of the time. Like I said, to each his own. I'd personally save that for the built motor and not your everyday tbi :dunno:

The 40 series is probably the loudest street muffler inside and outside the truck. I had one on a nice 383 with a high flow cat a 3" tube. Without a tail pipe it was very loud.
The 30 series is a single chamber race muffler that is probably louder than a 40.
Super 40 should be a bit quieter in the truck-less drone.
I now have the super 44 with a single 3" system in stock location with a highflow cat. It is hooked to a 406sbc with a 224/224 at 50 cam. It has a very noticeable, slightly rough, idle and can be very loud when I get on it. The sound is the deepest of the flowmaster mufflers and there is also less drone in the cab than with the 40 series. With the windows up the sound rarely bugs me. It can be too loud with the windows down sometimes. When towing a heavy trailer with the windows down, it can be down right obnoxious.

I had the 50 series at one point. It sounds more sporty and I absolutely hate it.

My k5 has the 70 series. It is quiet, but sounds much better than stock.

I heard a set of those Flowmaster single chamber ones on a hopped up Mustang, yes, they are very loud when on the throttle, are still moderately loud idling, but the they do sound good at the same time. Nice tone for their volume.

I personally wouldn't run them on anything but a street/strip vehicle, but then again, I'm gettin too old for loud daily driver exhaust.. :D

3" true dual's on a tbi motor is pretty stupid imo.... this isn't 1978, and the truck would perform better with a single 3"....

and better makes sure you get a heated O2 in that thing or it'll be running running like sh*t..

I agree with Ryoken on that.

A single 3" free flowing exhaust was the best setup I ran on my 89 K5 and 87 K20 4x4s, and it is what is going on my 84 K5 with a 91 TBI 350 motor.

I have the flowmaster 40s on my m1009 with the 6.2l diesel and I've set off car alarms before lol. But its not obnoxious when you're at cruising speeds. I have a thrush dual chamber muffler on the trail rig and I really like the sound when I get on it, but it's a little hard to hear your spotters directions on the trail...

I have glass packs on my 6.2L to me they sound good although at times the my neighbors don't seem to think so.
Buddy filmed a bit of me in some muck. you can get a little bit of an idea. except with a diesel.

I now know what a giant robot motorboating in a mud bath would look and sound like :haha:

nice till you put foot to floor. and shorter = louder

saving that link....

I didnt know of a company that made them anymore, and I know its a bit mall crawler because they would be where rock sliders would normally go... but Ive always thought a set of chrome corvette side pipes fed by chambered mufflers would be sick on a K5

I have Hooker supercomps on the Vette, with Hooker maxflow muffler inserts in them....sound relatively quiet until you get to about 2000rpm
