The best sound/loudest mufflers?

ah i see. I wish the smell wasnt an issue, i wanna dump that thing.

So run a catalytic converter! Really not that pricey, seem to help with exhaust drone, and would clean the smell up.

Yes, was talking about running smaller diameter exhaust as you get further back. Exactly what is done at the header collectors, just further downstream. More of a curiosity than anything, outside of some real fitment issues running same size pipe the whole way is just easier.

crap i thought i did have a cat, lol.. we have emissions here so i think you have to have one and this thing has passed emissions multiple times.

I have not got under there to look for a cat tho.

Ye, no emissions required so I don't think I need cats. Those Pypes violators sound badass alright! I had forgotten about those. I was looking at some for my Mustang but I ended up having to sell it before I got them. They might be the way to go.....

Mine and Glenn's are both 2.5" pipe. My motor is a 400 sbc bored .040 over to a 408 with summits 1103 cam. Bout it. His motor is much more built then mine, and a stock motor wont sound like his but i still really like the mufflers. I think on a stock motor with a cat and violators it would sound pretty sweet. The fact that they are stainless and won't rot out is a plus and they are a few bucks cheaper than flowmasters.

So adding cats make it louder?? haha, i always thought it was the other way around.

No it would be less loud. But i think the sound would be nice.

Thats what i thought, i need to climb under there and see if i even have one.

Then i need to see if i need it to pass emissions..

I like loud and deep exhausts. my s10 has a cherry bomb on it and it sets off alarms, very deep full sound it gives. wondering how it would sound on a v8

the muffler on my s10, i should add the turndown is turned right before the rear axle, im sure the sound bouncing off the ground makes some difference.

Cat(s) seem to take some of the drone out, without affecting how deep the exhaust sounds. I've heard an '88+ C/K TBI motor with just a stock converter on it, no muffler, and it sounded pretty good actually.

yeah, my stock 87 came with a cat and straight piped and it sounded pretty good...

Opinions I guess, I removed the mufflers on a few trucks I have had, with those stock cats and straight pipes, was a bit louder, but to me, it just sounded like a junker type of farm truck where the muffler had rotted out or something.

didn't say it sounded great, but certainly not junker farm truck.. wasn't a ton louder than stock, just when you where in the pedal ya noticed.. heck i didn't notice till i looked under the truck..

I suspect there is enough variation in the years that one setup may sound good, and one won't. No idea when they started going with the larger single pipe and non-pellet converter (monolith I believe they are called), that may have made a difference.

My '89 had the large flat pancake style converter, I believe those are pellet style?

But yeah,, It sucked, again, my opinion.

I put the Flowmaster 50 back on it with a tailpipe all the way to stock location, it it got super quiet, but sounded and felt like it was struggling when you got on the gas hard. Removed the tailpipe to just about 4" off the muffler, sounded better, and drove easier too.

I wonder if the cherry bomb i put on my s10 would sound as good on my k5?

Anyone here have any experience with those on these trucks?
