The Cummins K30

awesome work, i finally got an '86 CC dually 454 thats out of Missouri and is 99% rust free and already have a couple of 12v's around it looks like you used the original cross-member and made mounts is that correct, ive been looking at avalanche engineering's cross-member mount setup but i can fab it my self just dont know if its worth the time, its about 100$ more than i wanted to spend if i bought the mounts cant wait to see more, how much of a pain do you think the factory ac stuff would have been to keep in there, seeing as i have probly 10 to 12 35lp containers of R-12 and a good working system i might try to keep it, on second thought though the dodge compressor would be for 134a, well more research but keep it up
Tim

I used Avalanche's cross member. I have the ability to fabricate but I didn't have a good way to suspend the engine so I could build the cross member around it. I decided to purchase their cross member to save the time and headache. I thought it was a little on the steep side when it came to price, but i do have to say that it fit very well.

That companies website says the A/C kit won't work with a manual transmission, I realize you went to a 5spd which is usually farther back than the 4spd. Did you have any problems you didn't mention with fit?

that is a beautiful rig :bow::bow::bow:

I don't know why they claim that. I didn't have any problems with fitment. The evaporator/ heater core unit fits right behind the glovebox. My truck was an auto when it had the 454 in it, but there is a dimple in the floor where a manual shifter would come through. I did not change the t case shifter location and the trans shifter is right where a 4 speed shifter would be

I was on my way to work one morning last week and got into a little mishap. Traffic on the freeway suddenly slowed down and came to a stop. Everybody slowed down but the guy behind me. He hit me at about 40 mph.I was very pleased with the outcome of the wreck. His car was totaled but my truck only suffered a bent mudflap and a small dent in the bed

Ha! Shweet. Sucks about the dent though.

Thanks for the info I had hoped there was a cheaper company out there than Vintage Air. How does it do on cooling the large cab? Your truck is my dream rig CC K30 CTD DRW 4x4 thanks for the build thread!

Do you have any pics of the wheels off the truck after they were recentered? I love the looks of your truck and DIY's.

The ac does pretty well considering the summer temps here can be as high as 120. When its that hot it doesn't cool the back seats so well but it keeps the front seats nice and cool. Insulating the cab helps a ton on ac efficiency. I have actually had the evaporator freeze into an ice ball on a 110 degree day because I had it cranked so cold. Really my only complaint is that you can hear the blower fan more because its inside the cab now.

I don't have the H1's re centered. I'm running drw hubs in front and have a 3" spacer between the rear duals

Appears that your rear bumper is also bent up on the driver's side...

The rear vehicle usually takes 90% of the damage in that kind of accident.

The right side of the bumper is bent down, it was that way when I bought the truck. The car actually went under the bumper and didn't hit it at all. The dent in the bed sucks but its not really that bad. I pulled most of it back already and will finish the the body work in only a couple hours. Im just glad the truck hasn't been painted yet as that is one of the next things on the list to do

How did you connect the master cylinder to the clutch pedal?

Ok so you have DRW hubs on the front that takes care of them.

On the back how are they mounted? inner one mounted like a normal SRW/ 3" spacer /outter wheel backwards?

I don't have H1's in the rear. I have just standard 16.5" dually wheels with a 3" spacer between them. The inside wheel is mounted like normal, then the spacer is bolted on. The spacer has its own studs in it and the outer wheel bolts to that.

Yep, the dually rims are standard width and 6.5" wide. The tires are 12.50" wide so the rims are a bit narrow for the tires . I run 30 psi in the rears and the tires wear evenly
