The Garage

Little bit of an update,

I got the tar paper on and then we had a nice big rain and windy thunderstorm. Tore up most of the tar paper. Ripped that all off and redid it.

Now we're back on track again. 3/4's of the shingles are on. Plan is to have the regular shingles done tomorrow evening and the ridge cap the following night.

Thursday I intend to start on the siding and hopefully have it lockable by early next week.

my view just got much better. kind of a mess on the other side of the alley. not to mention the walnut tree. Always dumping walnuts in my driveway and still will be but some have been blocked off.
 
3 sides of the siding, the bottom 8' are done. Going around the overhead door side now. Lots of cutting, very little actual attaching siding to the frame work.

Yeah my parents had a black walnut tree . Thing was huge and made a big mess every year. Nice garage though. Im hoping to get a good size one at the next house I buy.

I have a few different helpers. Depends on the day and who is available. My son Jimmy has been helping me the most probably. My younger son Konner has pitched in from time to time. Then some friends here and there. Stomper from the board here has been helping with transporting the building materials. He's logged a few hours behind the wheel for me.

I have gotten quite a bit of help over the last while on the project. Pretty fortunate to have enough people that can pitch in from time to time.

Getting down to the point where I can handle a lot of it myself now. The siding on the rear gable will be a two man job and probably the overhead doors as well. Once I get some paint on the siding, I can look at getting the overhead doors put on. The inside will become a winter project. Insulation and sheeting the inside as well as electrical.
 
Middle door is a 9x8 while the two sides are 9x7's. The truck I'm driving right now would easily go in either door however, the middle door is where I will be parking. I haven't actually had much of a chance to try and make the swing through the driveway into the center door. I think its doable though. Easier with the short box I'm building for myself. My wife has the space nearest the house. She has groceries and things like that to haul in the house and runs a lot of errands for me through out the day. Seemed natural for her to have the close spot. She has tested out her approach to the door a couple times and can make the turn. I haven't actually seen her do it and sitting here talking to her now.... getting kinda nervous. Maybe I should install some 5" pipes full of concrete.
 
A curb or bumper on that edge by the yard might be a good idea....winter can do ugly stuff with cars sometimes! I'm sure Tracy wouldn't like to be sliding off the edge of the drive into the yard because of ice and snow.
