No. Paid $2 each and some fuel.

He had $8 each listed. Is it bad that when I get there and see what a crap hole the place is I offer him that much less? New he needed the money, but was a tweeker.
 
Delivery guy called with the new lift.

I went out to fire up the fork lift and it just cranked. Pulled the intake and gave it a show of go juice, still just cranked.

Battery is now going dead because I forgot to plug the battery tender in. Hook my truck onto it, still nothing.

Has fuel now so I plug my in line spark tester in line in the number 1 wire. Fires instantly. Better than it ever has. Nice blue spark.

Pull the tester out, will not run. Put it back in and it fires instantly.
 
The forklift is going to need some major work. I did a compression test because it sounded down a cylinder this morning after I got it running.

Cylinder 1 = 45psi
Cylinder 2 = 125psi
Cylinder 3 = 125psi
Cylinder 4 = 125psi

Put air into number one and it was coming out of the carb. OK, intake vale is open. So I roll the engine over in bumps. Noise only goes away when the exhaust valve is open.:yikes:

I checked and the valve is running full stroke compare to the others, so it is not bent. Will have to pull the head one day and see what is up.

I do not have the time for this.
 
Do a top engine clean with some sea foam, maybe it's just got a bunch of carbon in it. I worked on a crappy 4.5L powerstroke once that was like that. Warranty peeps had me pull heads and do a "solvent test" and set the head on a bench with the intake ports pointing up and fill them all with solvent to check valve sealing and it had solvent leaking out several valves. After it sat like that for a while it quit leaking due to the solvent cleaning out the carbon. Still put a whole engine in it though. Maybe some other crud just got down in the intake port too.
 
Back when I had a '56 Chevy pickup with a 235 six ,it often refused to fire up sometimes,like it had no spark..

My dad showed me how the distributor cap would build up a black sooty deposit in the coil wire socket--cleaning that crud out with a wire brush usually got it to fire right off again--he said many cars with points did that back in the day..

When I had first got the truck,there was a yellow thing plugged into the coil wire socket,that the coil wire plugged into--it had a label stating it was a "spark intensifier"...

Basically all it was,was an air gap inside the unit,so the spark had to jump across the air gap,and it would also jump across the spark plug gap at the same instant,this would allow even badly gas fouled plugs to fire (like if the engine got flooded by using too much choke)..we took it off thinking it was just a useless thing,but with it installed the engine did start almost every time instantly and ran much peppier.

So,perhaps when you put the spark tester in line with the plug wire,it did much the same thing,seeing the tester is just an air gap--and made the spark jump across the spark plug and fire it off..

I agree it may just need a good de-carboning,it may have sticky valves ,especially if it sits around a lot in between uses..Seafoam or Marvel Mystery oil in the fuel & crankcase and some poured down the intake at fast idle may help a lot...if not,then it may need major repairs..
 
Well this sucks. The end of the tape is the outside edge of one of the lift columns. No bueno. The slab is 5"+-.
