The Original Jaws Blazer Build

Looking good man! Keep it up and you will be there in no time, like you said it`s only been two months since you got it! Good job!

I will admit, I was very leery of your color choice. But after seeing it, it looks to be perfect. Good call!

I finally got the parts from LMC to put the glovebox back together.

Also, after trial and error, I found out how to paint with the paint shop loaded aerosol can...

3 coats of base and then wetsand with 2000 grit to remove any peel or dust

2 more coats of base (do not sand)

3 coats of clearcoat then wetsand with 2000 lightly and carefully to remove any peel

Polish with a soft foam pad with Finesse It Swirl Remover

Buff with a soft cloth....and WOW!!! Looks like glass and deep too....it's hard to capture with a camera, you can see the reflection of the lights in the first pic and me vaguely in the second:

very nice Chief! very meticulous for a glovebox door.

Well....the new tires is a bit of a story. As you know, I intended to put the 15x6's on first. When I got to NTB this morning, they put the tires on the wheels and I was peeking through the glass like an expectant father....
The rear wheels went on and wow!!! it looked sweet!

Then the fronts...and...uh oh...there's a problem...the front wheels have the wrong spacing...they won't fit over the disc brake calipers...

Soooooo....change of plans for the time being, I had to get tires so I could drive it....so on went the 15x8's with 31" 10.50's...It looks good...but so did it with the skinnies...

I am now trying to track down two more 15x6's that have the right spacing for the front:doah::doah::doah:

Wish I had tried them before I had them powder-coated....I did check the spacing on them and they were all the same so I thought I was good to go...I am not sure what spacing the front requires...half-inch wheel spacers weren't enough to do it.

By the way, I went driving for two hours today...the weather was beautiful outside and man, oh man was that fun...I don't know why I didn't get into this 10 years earlier....

I drove downtown where the huge oak trees make a canopy all along the road....man it was great to be able to have the top off and cruise under the canopy...the real treat was driving by the Bar-B-Que pit...I never knew it smelled like that before....

you are SO lucky, its been snowin here almost all day.

I hate snow, I wish I could just have a nice drive in a topless blazer.

Grass is always greener...I dream of snow...and we rarely ever get it...although the accuweather guy says we have a good shot this year....
the only reason I am glad the colder weather is holding is because I want to work on the Blazer....

those 15x6's may have been from a pre 1970 truck, before that they were drum brake fronts, but wouldnt figure that would make a problem. Sorry they didnt work out for ya, but i love them 15x8s.

Nothing beats a full-convertible truck on a sunny day when there isn't a single shark in the sky.... :D

I couldn't have said it better myself....but those beaches will be closed....by order of the Amity PD....I know they are out there...I just have to keep driving and watching...

Now I hear there were some bathers who were supposedly "injured" by some kind of large predator, but as you can see the weather is beautiful, the skys are blue and Amity, as you know, means friendship....

Thanks!

Any words of wisdom on wheel bearings rotor/hub assembly and a bad drag link?

The guys at the tire store showed me the joint is bad there but said that it would be easier to replace the whole drag link....and also easir to buy the rotor/hub assembly with the bearings already pressed in...

This will be my first time to do this on a big 4x4.....

Well, the "whole" drag link is just two DLE's with an adjuster sleeve between them. If your adjuster sleeve is good, and there is no reason for it not to be, just get two DLE's and you're good to go.

The bearings come out of the hub quite easily. No reason to buy a whole new assembly. I'd re-pack the current bearings and it should be fine for many many more years and miles though. The only reason for new bearings if if the old ones are pitted or show signs of heat damage.

It seems these shops would love you to spend a ton of money with them, when most of it is unnecessary at best.

DLE = drag link end, in case you didn't know.

Get yourself the hub bearing socket and service the bearings yourself. You'll need some premium wheel bearing grease and new hub grease seals. Pull it apart, clean and inspect everything, repack the bearings and put it back together. If you're unfamiliar with any of this process, just ask, we'll help you through it.

OK...just to keep the thread updated, I installed two new drag link ends and changed the wheel bearings on the driver's side.
I also spent all day today (Thanksgiving) installing a .99 cent o-ring on the transmission dipstick tube and getting it bolted on.

I also had the good luck to find a premium drivers side front fender for $69.00 brand new and they actually shipped it for $10.00!!!!
I can't believe it, everyone else wanted $130 to $175 just for shipping...something tells me they will fix that real quick.

Three steps forward and one step back...the ground problem is back...when I turn the headlights on the temp gauge and fuel gauge go crazy....I had already install a new headlight switch...everything had been working correctly after I installed new turn signal flashers and hazard flasher switch in the fuse block....I am baffled.

Was that a Chinawanese fender or Genuine GM NOS?
