The R/C Garage... [R/C Drivers Lounge]

So guys looks like I need your basic rc crawler primer.

Never even looked at an rc truck til bout 3 hours ago.

Plan is to buy one complete Rtr. Drive it enough to get hooked then build a custom one.

Currently looking at an axial wraith.
What should I do for battery?
Just looking I found a lipo 7.4 but I don't even know what that **** means. Read thru this thread but its obviously geared more towards the guys that already know wtf they're talking about.

axial wraiths are a great starting point, easy to drive, capable for a stock rig and tons of aftermarket support. 7.4 lipo means its a LIthium POlymer battery, 7.4 volts. thats a 2 cell pack, 3 cell packs are 11.1 volts, etc... lipo batteries are great, tons of power, great run times and they're light weight. you'll need a charger capable of doing lipo for them.
7.4v lipo batteries are great for that truck, make sure you get one with electronics that can handle lipos. check out hobby king.com for batteries, i run Turnigy batteries from there and have never had a problem. shipping can take some time because they come from china most of the time but the price is worth it.
a couple of these will last 3-4 hours in a wraith.http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__9184__Turnigy_5000mAh_3S_20C_Lipo_Pack.html

Selling the Crawler I have. If anyone here wants it, PM me for details. Axial XR10 based, X-trail chassis, Flysky GT-3 radio, some extra stuff.

well im happy how the CL Trekker is coming out.. (black one)
tonight I put a bit into it..

so to say this first..
a used trekker, new aluminum parts, tires and used 80something model body (hacked up but didnt cost no where near new and i like it!!!!)
for less than the price of a NEW trekker!!!!!

so only thing left... errr well a few..
1. put plug on like my lipos have... just not the stock trekker plug
2. new links need to bring front tires in as you see they are too far forward
3. find that dagone thread to make these cheap arse rims into actual beadlocks.....
4. final and best mod... Danally motor.... most likely not the big block.. just a rewind of the stock ones... maybe 70t???

Broke the slash today. Some roll pin in the transmission decided to let go after landing a little jump. Hopefully I can just get that pin.

Tried out the pro line TSLs on the scx10 and they work awesome, not to mention they look awesome too. I put them on Losi bead locks. I wish I would've known that they make a taller version of the 1.9s before I bought these, but oh well.

This hobby is pretty addicting. I just picked up a HPI sprint 2 69 camaro. I've gotta upgrade that power, and gearing wise, but it seems fun.

How do you like the little crawlers? I was thinking of picking one up to play with inside when I'm too lazy to go outside.

i have let my 1/10 crawlers sit now.. having too much fun with the kids...

so i have that green one.. which will get the boggers back on... then the black buggy will get the miclaws... then im buiding the blue on still..

then my youngest has the redcat sumo 4ws... oldest has losi trekker with claws..

so we have enough to have fun... :thumb:

********edited..

to add to it..
1. micro rc are very slow..
2. trekker out of box sux
3. need to mod it to your liking..

with that...

slow:
they are slow - if you can live with that cool.. but there is a easy fix to gain some speed

sux:
to gain speed.. just go lipo as they have lipo cutoff.. this guy comes with a nihm 4.2v where you can run a 2s lipo for 7.2v... built in lipo cutoff so your good... gain speed...
top heavy... if you dont mind.. makes it more challenging and realistic...

Mod:
well cheap mods.. cut springs in half to lower cog and wheel better, buy new chassis and make it a worthy rig on $40ish.... motor upgrades, freebie add weights to tires...

I think the #1 must do thing is (ok 2 part)... buy a danally motor.. im running his 90t stock hand wound in my sons and it is good.. im running a stroker (bigger can) 90t in my black raptor v8e and there is so much better lower throttle control and response and power all around.

find one used... and a great deal...

i bought a losi trekker, redcat sumo and tons of parts/tires, etc... retail $500 for $175 shipped..
then i bought a losi trekker with f0rd model body, extra axles, tons of aluminum parts, tons of spare screws, parts, etc... $125

then sell off some if you want... that is what im doing right now on ebay.. got extra lids up for sale...

well i cant leave things alone.. but this one is 99% done.. all it needs is more weight up front and also to wrap the battery in black tape and route the wires a bit nicer :thumb:
