The RedBurb

Every Part Is Replaceable

My very very first crossmember design was setup the way they recommend, two stacked pucks side by side and it split my transmission adapter into 3 pieces :D

My second design utilized on of their poly engine mounts, so a single mount similar to what @AgDieseler did, and it held up fine until I ripped the truck apart to build this next one.

My third design will be similar to the second but with another bushing right behind it.

If this doesn’t get your blood flowing, I don’t know what will. This is just too cool. Picked up a shift tower from Torque King and the lever from Advance Adapters aka Summit. It’s just really neat to get to feel what the transmission will shift like for the first time. I’m like a little kid again.

Sometimes mixing and matching truck parts requires careful attention to detail to ensure you’re installing the right parts.

Sometimes that lesson is learned the hard way.

I learned pretty quickly after getting my drivetrain installed that I had ordered the wrong clutch as the throw out bearing would not make contact with the pressure plate before the clutch fork bottomed out against the back of the bell housing. I reached out to @Larry and thanks to his wealth of NV4500 knowledge, I discovered the late model clutch kit I had installed was incompatible with my early model 4500 and Advanced Adapters bell housing.

No big deal. I got the correct early model clutch kit on order and with the help of a couple of friends willing to risk life and limb, we were able to pull the Magnum 205 and NV4500 out, swap the clutch, and reinstall the transmission and transfer case in just 3 Florida summer hours. Throw out bearing makes contact now.

With that behind me, I can focus on building the new transmission crossmember. After some more thought, I don’t think it’s necessary to have a dual mount/ cantilever setup, but I will be swapping back to the factory style OEM mount. Drivetrain angle is set at 4-5*.

On the day of the clutch swap, this little fella showed up at my house. I saw him through the window sitting in front of our blue suburban.

Thinking he would bolt as soon as I stepped outside (like all strays do), I walked out to the porch. Much to my surprise, he instead immediately came straight to me.

He is skinny and seemed hungry and thirsty so I gave him some food and water.

And he hasn’t left since. He’ll roam the area on occasion, but he seems to have decided we are his new home. He is even more affectionate than the two cats we already have and enjoys relaxing in the shade of the suburbans.

So much for not being a cat dad.

We've had a couple friendly neighborhood cats like that. They belong to someone but they are good at convincing you they are deprived. :haha: If he hangs around he might be abandoned, though. Usually the cats with a home disappear for awhile.

We took him today to get scanned for a microchip (he does not have one) and got him a rabies vaccine. He hangs around most of the day and night, tends to roam around on occasion as well.

My thoughts are older owner who didn't care for newer technologies of chipping and passed away recently so the cat has no owner now

Been super busy the last couple weeks, but tryna do a little here and there everyday.

Started with getting another canopy because I’m done working in the heat and rain. I’ll add a few extras in time to try to make it look nicer from the road, but it’ll be lipstick on a pig. I opted out of an HOA for a reason.

Finally picked up a HF welding table. Put casters on it this morning. Not pictured is the wooden base I built for my tube bender. Casters on that also.

Diesel ended up moving in. Agree he’s def an older cat. But he’s pretty chill and a welcome addition to the family.

Hope to be getting to building the new transmission crossmember this weekend.

It's funny how we name our pets after car stuff, our cats are Nova and Zora. Nova is 16 and Zora was a stray my mom found a few years, she's maybe 4, kids love them both but Nova grew up without kids and doesn't let them near.

My cousin named his dog Piston.

Your burb is looking awesome!

The animals that pick us are the best.
So how do like that HF welding table ?

It got its inaugural use yesterday. Pretty good so far. Haven’t done much with the clamps it’s just nice having a place to sit down to weld comfortably and not worry about catching on fire. I’ve always welded on wooden workbenches before lol.
