The RedBurb

Every Part Is Replaceable
My comment? It's a whole lot easier removing the pedal bracket when the cab is upside down. Put your truck on its roof and you'll find the easy way to do this stuff... ;)

:haha:

About the 5th time you’ve made me laugh today :haha::haha::haha::saweet::woot:

And actually, it wasn’t as hard putting them back together as it was taking them apart. Bit doesn’t help my claustrophobia...

I'm glad you chuckled, but it really was easier working on it upside down.

Be glad you don't have a fully-optioned stick shift. It gets tight with electrical modules hanging off on both sides of a double-wide pedal bracket. Tight enough that I considered chucking a few of them. But someday I plan to enjoy those extra cruise control modules. Someday, someday...

I'm glad you got them in good shape!

Gonna be different seeing it in the new color! The blue was definitely a bit bright

Yes! Across the country unscathed!

It’ll definitely be different, but I think I’m going to like the end result. Keeping the white roof. I think the combination will make a nice match. Will be a little while yet however, got to get all this mechanical stuff done first:

Power steering pump - done
Hydroboost - done
Valve covers - half way done
Crossover pipe - pending
J Code intake manifold - pending
Harmonic balancer - pending
Engine oil pan gasket - pending
Transmission oil pan gasket - pending
Shift kit - pending (been on shelf for 2 years)

Everything in that list I have parts for already, except for the J code intake manifold, but hopefully should have that in a week or so.

THEN I’ll be able to get to work prepping these doors!

All while continuing to collect parts for the 60.

I actually thought about swapping to a stick when I replaced my transmission. Glad I didn’t now.

I DID however take the front driver seat out, which made working under the dash a lot easier since I could lay down instead of twisting into a twizzler...

New crossover pipe is in. Still need to button it up but it is in and should have it wrapped up tonight. If I’m lucky, I’ll be able to get the valve covers set in tomorrow evening and snug them down Friday afternoon. Then depending on weather, might be able to get the engine oil pan gasket installed Friday night/Saturday morning. Getting there.

Took 4 crossovers to come up with one good one.

And no, this time I didn’t crack any ears!

So I think this is neat:

One of my concerns about the last crossover pipe I installed (the one I broke the ears on), was that it did not have a port for the temp sensor like my original one did here:

So fast forward to crossover #3, it does not have the same port either, but it DOES have another port right before the thermostat. So what did I do? Got a pipe reducer (had to explain what that was to the lady at NAPA while wrangling my fussy toddlers), extended the wires, and relocated the temp sensor to the new port. Not going to be able to test it until I get everything else wrapped up, but I think this is going to work out well:

Is that better than the standard mounting spot in the corner of the head? Seems like the head sensor is going to see a temperature spike sooner than the crossover sensor will. :dunno:

Do you have sensors in both locations? Or the cold-idle temperature switch in the passenger-side head?

Sensors in both locations. The one in the corner of the head is the one that sends signal to the temp gauge. Actually not really sure what purpose this one has, but figured it was important, and glad I was able to retain it. :D

Do you have the temperature switch in the opposite head?

I have one in the drivers side head, uncertain about the passenger side head. :dunno::confused:

Ok. Stock squarebody configuration is temp sensor in the driver-side head, temp switch in the passenger-side head, and no sensor in the crossover. I'm curious as to what your second sensor is used for. Your hybrid configuration is intriguing...

Hmmm, well now I’m intrigued too. I’ll look the passenger head over tomorrow just to lay eyes on the switch and become familiar with it. Now that I think about it, I ran with this crossover sensor unplugged for quite a while and noticed no change in functionality. So who knows what it goes to. At least it’s in place.

Tomorrow, if time permits, the valve covers go back on!

I DID locate and identify my temp switch, it’s on the passenger side head close to the fire wall. I actually had to unplug the harness from it to get the valve cover off.

Valve covers DONE.

Letting the silicone cure over night, then tomorrow after work I will pull the bolts out one at a time, add blue loctite, then snug them down.

I've gotta admire your patience and ability to wait until the next night. Its never something I've been good at.

Ok. That should be only used for activating the cold idle solenoid. IIRC, it's a normally-closed switch that goes open at 110 degrees. I think it also controlled the EPR valve that you chucked in the trash, but don't quote me on that.
