The RedBurb

Every Part Is Replaceable
The 52s are in.

These are strictly temporary to keep the truck a roller. They’re the lightest of the light, built for a half ton 2wd pickup. So they’re already flattened out :saweet:

For anyone who ever wondered how to fit 40s with no lift, this is how …

Something about that view just gets me fired up.

And I guess the ol’ girl didn’t think I had enough to do …

I’ll get the rear axle attached to the frame by the end of the week, and then it’s time to turn my attention to the fuel system, and finally, the turbo.

Back on all 4 forties. Starting to look like a truck again. Or maybe a tractor.

Ended up moving the rear spring brackets back two inches, for an even 6” forward / 6” rearward adjustment, rather than the previous 8” forward and 4” rearward. Otherwise I would have had to shorten my driveshaft, and I’m just not sure I want to do that yet.

My truck is the truck that keeps on giving. The entire exhaust system is now removed, but not without a fight. All but one of the passenger manifold bolts came loose. The one remaining one rounded off so much I couldn’t get it out even with an easy out. So, I opted to cut the head off the bolt. Then I pulled the glow plugs to find that the front and rear plugs had burnt the tips off, which means there is probably some damage to the pistons.

I’m actually planning to replace the heads with a set of Promaxx heads and toss in some ARP head studs while I’m at it, so that will solve the bolt-stuck-in-the-head problem and give me a chance to inspect the cylinders.

I’m ready to start pulling the remainder of the cab and the core support, so today I pulled the bench seat back out and pulled off the grill and the headlights.

I also rehomed the boys’ swing set. They grew out of it and weren’t playing on it anymore, so it was time to go. Space is at a premium these days, and I’ll need it when I start body swapping and frame swapping everything.

I’ve been in and will continue to be in a holding pattern for the next 6 weeks, but, in the meantime, parts collection continues. These Big Brake Brackets from NWF arrived just moments ago, been on back order since early March.

Cooling stack/core support is gone. Well, not gone, just off. This was a messy job.

Next step is to get the cab ready to be pulled, but I’ll be taking my time on that one.

There’s a big part of me that wants to yank all that wiring out and start from scratch.

Andy

Started pulling the engine wiring. Most of this is getting trashed but, I’ll be making an effort to sort out what goes where.

I’d like to introduce y’all to the new Rusty Cedar Suburban!

This has been months in the making, and frankly, I wanted to keep quiet about it until it was a done deal.

This beautiful girl came all the way from New Mexico, with the help of a buddy of mine who had a car here in Jax that needed to get to Albuquerque. My friend Kevin gets all the credit. He hunted this down for me and spent months securing this down and coordinating plans to make this happen.

Pictures say a thousand words, so I’ll let them do the talking. But, I’ll add that it was real nice to see our friend @AgDieseler at the meetup in Texas, and get his official stamp of approval on the new burb. I also handed him off my front bumper, which I sold to a guy in Colorado who David will deliver to on his way to Blazerbash. Thank you for all your help and your time, David, I cannot express my appreciation enough.

She’s a rust free and clean as they come, has nothing that I don’t need save for a few extra parts I’ll be able to sell, and everything I do need to build a complete truck. All the parts that I’ve built and used to build the first truck will be transferred over to build this one.

Build time is estimated in years, I’m taking my time with this one. But maybe I’ll surprise myself.

There’s much more to say about this whole experience, but I’ve only had one cup of coffee so for now, just bask in the pictures.
