The restoration/modification of Daisy.

Should have the park/neutral wires and a few others in it i think. The easiest way to find out would be to see what pins they went to on the computer and look at a pcm pinout diagram.

anyone know where this connector/harness goes? It plugged into the TBI computer. I haven't dug through the dash enough to see where it ends up but I doubt I'll need it once the vortec engine is in.

I disconnected that plug TODAY, but in the engine compartment. Need to check tomorrow. I'm thinking cruise.

I'm thinking cruise or shift position. Where can I find a pin out diagram?

I remember the ck5 sub culture decals as well. Put a set on the ex's burb when we moved to colorado in 2002. The complete offroad sticker reminds me of a guy in phx named steve that has a buisness with that exact name.

On the TBI....
I am leaning heavily towards a LS swap.
With 4.88's and 35's keeping the old girl at 75 in cruise is
impossable. Of course i am used to driving a cummins that
loves hills and never slows down on cruise....
The entire tbi deal to me is to archaic, is was a great swap
for the older rigs years back...but the hassle of trying to burn
a chip to get it right is just not worth the hassle in my opinion.

That's where it was from, I lived in PHX for a couple years.

Been doing a lot of yard work lately. Every time I decide, "this weekend I'm tearing the Chevy apart." something comes up an I need the damn thing. I did get all the TBI **** (harness/computer) out of the suburban a couple weeks ago. There's one connector I need to post a photo of and ask about before I put the dash back together. I'm at work but I'll post that up tonight and see what you guys think.

That happens a lot Scott, I haven't touched mine in over a week now. Life just keeps on happening.:dunno:

this thread has been slow, sorry guys. our laptop at home **** the bed and I've only had my iPhone to work off of. (typing this on my work computer with still has windows 98 on it, ugh...)
this Saturday (tomorrow) my dad and i are disassembling the '99 C2500. finally! the wife has asked for a build budget and ive been putting that together. we just paid off a few credit cards with my tax return so we've got $4-500 a month freed up now, that'll make it a lot easier to finally make some progress.

once removed, the trans is going out to a local shop to get rebuilt with the 4wd tail shaft and housing. so i can reuse my NP241. the engine will probably sit on a stand in the garage for a week or so and get some new gaskets and ****. i'm gonna do a compression test on it and check a few things out before hoisting it up into the suburban. it runs smooth as can be right now, but it never hurts to run the bore scope through it and give it a once over.

as for wiring, i'm gonna remove every inch of wiring from the Chevy, anything that might have something to do with the engine/trans is coming out, i figure between my tbi harness and the vortec harness i should be able to piece it all together. there haven't been a lot of these swaps done, I've been searching everywhere (google) and coming up with very little. you can find LS swaps all over the place but most tbi-vortec swaps involve a new intake manifold and reusing the archaic tbi FI system. so if anyone knows of a build thread or good reference out there, send it my way. my only real concern is making the engine/harness play along with the gauges and fuse box. probably not even a big deal but I've just never messed with it. i might start up a thread in the engine bay to get into all the wiring specifics.

so look for some updates soon, i'll try to keep it interesting!

ok so I actually got somewhere today! The engine and trans are out of the C2500. Got the harness all labeled up and I'm probably gonna tear the dash apart and strip out the entire harness tomorrow. With the cruise control on the c2500 being an external cable operated unit, I might be able to wire that into the suburban. As mentioned, I'm keeping every bit of wiring so I'll have more than I need. I'm also gonna swap all the c2500's emissions stuff over to Daisy just so I don't need to worry about check engine lights and ECM tuning. I'll be smog exempt in NV because of Daisy's age but I'm not sure what king of tuning options I have with this generation ECM.

Cutting the exhaust because it didn't clear over the core support

On the stand, gonna get a few gaskets, freeze plugs and a good once over before going into Daisy

I'm gonna try to use as much from the Chevy as possible, the radiator is bigger than Daisy's old one, the a/c compressor is good, the alternator and water pump are both doing good. I've got a pair of 12" electric fans that I'm gonna try to use instead of the stock fan.

Are the smog laws in Vegas different than in Reno? The reason I ask is because in Reno, anything newer than 1966 or 67 I believe, had to be smogged. Did they relax the standards by chance?

It's the same down here but you can register 20yr old vehicles as "classic rods.". You're smog exempt but limited to 5,000 miles a year. But when does the DMV have time to go check your mileage?

Yesterday, when Matco swung by the shop I bought a compression test kit. I also brought home my digital torque wrench and bore scope. I'm gonna check the compression on the engine and see where to go from there. If its good I'll order up a gasket set and an ARP hardware kit from summit and reseal everything. If needed, I'll buy a full rebuild kit and go all the way with it.

I've still got to finish removing **** from the c2500 before I can get rid of it. My friend might buy it from me for $400. ( I only paid $600 for it 3 yrs ago!)

How can I possibly not have one single 10mm deep socket in my garage??? I'm a mechanic. I do this for a living...

I'm buying a set of deep 3/8 drive metric sockets for the garage tomorrow. I've gotta bring home a puller to yank the harmonic balancer, might just buy one of those for the garage too. decided to forgo the compression test and just do a full rebuild. It's got 162k on it, might as well. Gonna need to decide on a cam, everything else will be mostly stock. I'm not sure what kinda tuning options I've got with this ECM, compared to an LS series ECM. If I can have something custom done, I might.

Wouldn't be a small block Chevy build without a broken exhaust bolt or two.

Is it a 350 or a 305? If you are going to put that much money in it, wouldn't you be better off with a Gen III sbc?
