The restoration/modification of Daisy.

spent the day in the garage again today.

decided to use the torch from my work truck for the rivets, much faster and easier.

DIY and Offroad Design both carry the bushings.

I have no idea what that thing is.

Yeah I posted about it in the garage and got an answer. According to ORD's site, some 89-91 k5s/suburbans has metric rear springs, that measure 1.7" ID.
I'll get a few coming from ORD today, wheel studs are on the way from rockauto, spring plates from DIY are ordered and I've gotta stop and get lug nuts today, by the weekend i should be able to assemble everything.

I went to my friend's house and got something done today. That mystery part was to cross tie my rear shackles. 1" solid rod, turned down to 1/2" on the ends to insert into the center holes on the WFO shackles, welded in. 3/8" thick shackles with a 1" solid rod cross tie, I shouldn't be bending these, ever.

wheel studs and lug nuts showed up, then my rear spring bushings from ORD and spring plates from DIY4X came in the next day. i bought a bunch of new hardware and got some work done yesterday and today.

installed the springs bushings, assembled the hubs, bent up some hard lines and installed everything this morning. i also picked up a brake line flaring tool and fixed the hardline from the load sensing prop valve to the soft line bracket. the nut was rusted shut and got ****ed up trying to remove he soft line.

you haven't lived until you've installed one tons under a truck on a slanted driveway. i actually hung the axle from the frame with ratchet straps and lifted it into place with them, lol!

all bolted in.

as she sits right now, too tall. currently at 8" front and 7" rear. still gotta ditch the body lift and the front shackles, that'll bring it down to 5" all around. i just need to have a rear line made and the brakes are done.

shackle angle, there is no weight in the truck at all, fuel tank isnt even installed.

Wow looking good. In like strap holding floor jack from rolling away
5" seems like a goodvheight for a burb. Looks real tall now with the body lift.

when its all said and done, if needed, i can drop to a 4-5" shackles and add a zero rate in there for to get the height i need and add some shackle angle.

i had a new rear brake line made at a local hydraulic hose shop and got it installed today. i bent up a new set of hard lines to fit it a little better. the other lines i made had i just kinda floating above the diff, this way, they're bolted down.

This morning I stripped and primed the hood.

Also figured out radiator mounting, gonna build some mounts. The radiator from the C2500 is bigger than daisy's, it fills up the area it sits in pretty well.

I also test fit the other coolers and it looks like everything is gonna fit behind the grille just fine. Maybe tomorrow I'll buy some steel to make mounting tabs and straps out of and get all the aux coolers installed.
Engine oil cooler, trans cooler and power steering cooler. The PS cooler isn't anything special but it was free. I might replace it, not sure.

Just my luck. Finally get around to bleeding the rear brakes and the pass rear bleeder screw breaks off. Guess ill bring home some extractors tomorrow and see if I can get it out.

So I got the PS and trans coolers mounted. Removed the headlights and cleaned up the core support. I still need to scrape off the stickers and clean up the top of it. I shot everything that'll be behind the grille with a couple coats of flat black to clean it up a little. I won't be using the engine oil cooler, it's pretty old and while removing the lines from it some of the threads came out. Ill get a new one.

I'd just ditch it. A loss of oil pressure is a lot harder on stuff that warm oil.

That was a couple weekends of pain and frustration but oh so nice. I made sure the connections were good. I actually have a new set of lines I plan to install. Get a new oil cooler get some new lines call it a a day.
