The restoration/modification of Daisy.

not much of an update but damn, the more i drive Daisy the more all the little things start to bother me. window seals are cracking and falling apart, door striker bushings are gone so you have to slam the doors which only makes the window seals worse. the lack of a park brake is a little frustrating as well, i can't park in my driveway without a wheel chock. finally, the front springs are pissing me off, they make noise when steering. they did it before i removed the bottom leaf, and they seem to be worse now. i had my wife steer back and forth and you can see the leaves moving side to side against each other.

so i updated the white board in the garage to try and prioritize what needs to be done. right now i'm saving for tires so not much has been going on. i'll have those in a couple weeks, then i'll be able to put some more miles on her but more importantly, make some progress on all these little things that are keeping me awake at night.

i got the striker bushings on both front doors replaced tonight, it's so nice to not have to slam the doors. :woot:

i got bored and had some 1/8" plate laying around so i beefed up the fuel tank skid. its no TNA skid but it's better than nothing.

i got a new grille from LMC the other day. it's almost as bad as the one from Rock Auto... it really pisses me off that our only option for restoring American trucks is knock off Chinese parts...

al components are from LMC.

the GMC logo and grille are supposed to be made for each other.

the grille and bezels don't fit together. a bunch of ssanding on the back side of the bezels later, they pretty much fit.

I was under the impression that the only gmc emblem you could get was for the latermodel ttrucks?

It's a perfect match for the GMC badge on my original grille. It's listed with the grille and bezels in LMC's catalog. You would think it would all fit together...

That's crazy. So the spot on the grill is different than original?

Yep. Badge is the same, flat spot on the grille is different.

I was grumpy and frustrated with the quality of the grille and headlight bezels yesterday. Today I figured I would install it all on the truck anyway and I've got to say it actually looks pretty damn good. The fitment issue between grille and bezels was more or less solved by screwing everything down to the truck, it spread out the grille enough that the bezels fit a little better. Now that it's all on there I'm pretty damn happy with it.

Looks better than a tube grille, that's for sure!

I never did find a decent GMC hood ornament. I have a mint Chevrolet one, but that doesn't do you much good....

hey muddy the sub is looking great! glad to see her moving under her own power. great build and thread. i was wondering if you could tell me where you got the Stainless steel brake line for the rear? the one that runs from the frame down to the axle and has T on the end for the hard lines to go into?

Thanks for checking man. I agree, not. Fan of billet grilles. this is the best grille setup gm ever built IMO.

I had it made by a local hydraulic hose shop, Nevada House of Hose.

I started on a front bumper today, just doing some CAD work so far. I'm gonna do a hitch mount for the winch so I can move it front to back if needed. That makes building bumpers easier too. I want the bumpers to fit like an OEM bumper, no big gaps between the bumper and body, they need to look like they belong on the truck.

Oh yeah, this week I'll be cutting the front hubs down for the H2 wheels to fit and buying tires!

May need thicker cardboard :dunno:

Why the turning hubs to fit H2 they fit mine fine ?

My 60 started off as a dually axle. The outside diameter of the hub was originally over 5 inches and when we turned them down the first time we stopped cutting when the steel wheels fit over the hub.
The aluminum wheels have a smaller hole in the middle.
