The restoration/modification of Daisy.

I'm just wondering how much "expedition/exploring" I'll be able to do at 8mpg. And if I get a diesel pickup sometime soon I wouldn't be using the sub for camping/exploring anyway. I dunno, just thinking out loud.

Well, at 8mpg's, your exploring will be limited to the end of the street and back. :haha:

Well I'm hoping with only 4-5"lift, 37s, 4.56s and overdrive I can get 12-14 on the highway.

I dd a 1972 Pontiac Ventura II at 8.5 mpg's and it's killin' me! I'm dropping at least $50 a week for go go juice. :saweet:

$hit i drop about $20 every other day:pimp: It would prolly help if I taught my right foot to lay off a bit, but man do I love that new engine feel:thumb: (my ninja turtle wallet may think otherwise but it can go eff off:haha:)

it was good to hear the background on why you are doing this muddy. i have an almost identical story going on right now with mine, down to the mismatched gears ha! maybe this will motivate me enough to make some progress on mine.

Bftank? You're on expedition portal too. I'm dieselfuel on there.

I need to get back to work, next week I'll bring the engine over to my house and start tearing it apart. I need to get the trans dropped out of the truck too, I'm just dreading the mess it's gonna make on my driveway.

nah, i got that out of my system, i'll leave her alone until it gets dented someday.

Good to hear:waytogo:

Looking at the one in the link, it's a beautiful job, but wouldn't it have been easier to start with a crew cab, and cut the back part out?
Mount a topper or blazer half top and do what he did to complete it?

Personally, the reason I like the 'Burb over a truck with a topper, is it's all self contained (don't have to exit the body to get in the back), lockable, and pretty watertight (we hope:D).

Oh well, just thinking out loud.
Good to see you're staying with a full bodied truck:waytogo:

yep thats me. good to know there is another ck5er over there.

are you gonna try and make bb2012 with this thing? i am thinking about it. i always feel guilty looking at the bash pics when there are only one or two burbs there.

nice blog by the way, do you guys ever make it out to the "pork and hops" comp in grand junction? i have been considering entering p and h one of these years.

i'm gonna try, might not be done exactly the way i want but i'm gonna try like hell.

we havent made it up that far yet, we have a few friends that competed there, next year maybe.
my mom writes the blog, i dont get out to as many competitions as i'd like. my work schedule sucks so my mom and dad do most of the contests...

i pulled all the seats out and did some cleaning today. i'm pretty happy with how clean the carpet/seats/side panels are, considering it spent 10yrs hauling boy scouts around.

How hard was it to drop the gas tank? I'm considering dropping mine to see if the little rubber hose is split or rotted in any way causing it to run like crap intermittently.

not bad. i managed to do it with just a floor jack. but it was empty, only like 2 gallons in it.the skid plate just unbolts then loosen the straps enough to reach in a disconnect all the hoses or at least loosen them. then lower it down.. like i said, much easier if its empty.

I remember this burb from waaay back when.

Kinda looks at home in front of the trailer :haha::haha:

haha it does kinda look out of place in front of my house huh?

well progress has been slow but there's a light at the end of the tunnel. my crazy mother in law is buying me an engine!! she gave my wife all the info for her credit card and told her to put my engine on it! my only instruction is to keep it under $2k. :D:D:D

so over my weekend (wed-thu-fri) i got the transfer case and transmission pulled and made a nice pile of junk wiring and stuff on the garage floor of stuff that doesnt belong on the truck. the PO had wiring running to the back of the truck that just ended, and extra junction block on the fire wall etc.. i'm gonna have to replace a few wires in the engine harness and i want to put all new battery wires in it, something nice and heavy.

junk, i cant believe GM considered that to be a PS cooler...

all gutted out. gonna order up a diy4x clocking ring and see how much i can get out of my transfer case, then build a new cross member.

so my driveway is on a 7% grade and i dont have a transmission jack. so i took the convertger off the trans and my brother and i just lifted it off the cross member and set it on the ground. i might have forgotten to drain the trans first and my brother was on the down hill side.. it was funny as hell seeing him lift his ass up like a crab over a river of ATF down the driveway!
