The restoration/modification of Daisy.

Awesome you're getting an engine!!:waytogo:

Tranny fluid ass has to be much worse than swamp ass! :haha:

dayum!!

I bet he's making $$ hand over fist! Great idea..:waytogo:

so does anyone around here have any advise on dropping a 5.3LS into my sub? as far as crossmember/motor mounts/exhaust manifolds/flexplate etc?

Check out LS1TRUCK.COM. They have alot of info over there. If i were you, thats the route i would take! Just look at the numbers,

300hp tbi long block. $1768 from summit.

COMPLETE 300hp LM7 turn key RTR. $1995 from BD turnkey engine supply.

For the over all performance, reliabilty, driveabilty, and fuel economy I would go with the LM7! Having ridden in lots of tbi 350 trucks and several 5.3 trucks, i wish i could stick a 5.3 in everything i own! They just haul ass! Compared to a stockish TBI350 any way.

Also, if you notice, he is offering a $400 ecm/harness mod package. So, if you go pick up your own engine from a wrecking yard(use car-part.com) for around $750, add his stuff for $400 your at $1150. "all you need" after that is a higher pressure fuel pump, couple fuel fittings, fan, and possibly a different cross member, and your set!

I'm putting down a deposit on an engine tomorrow, it'll probably be a few weeks til I get it but at least we're making forward progress.

Ok guys, I'm looking at the truck trying to figure out what needs to be gotten rid of for the 5.3 swap. I've got a question. Wtf is this thing?

if your not kidding,,,,,, thats the wiper motor:D

well, i just heard back from BD turnkey engines. 3 weeks out and $2349 later i should have my engine. kinda nerve racking spending that much money on a "toy truck." i guess tomorrow i'll send the deposit and get the ball rolling.

if anyone is considering doing this swap, i highly recommend going through Bryan and i havent even bought the engine yet! the email he just sent me is amazing, he supplies an 8 page install guide that goes over wiring, DTCs, oil pan clearance, motor mounts, cooling system, charging system, flex plate/TC compatibility, etc... VERY professional! definitely makes you feel better about dropping a couple grand (especially if its someone else's money) on an engine for a "toy."

sounds exciting! does it mention anything about exhaust manifolds or headers that fit your sub? i've heard that can be a problem sometimes.

It comes with stock manifolds an the Y-pipe with the O2 sensors in it. He doesn't mention specific vehicle fitment though as most of them are sold to buggy projects.

Curious to see how this goes. Biggest thing holding me back is dealing with my 4l80e, which you won't have to deal with.

Next is fuel, exhaust, and AC. Doubt you'll run AC. Curious to see how the rest turns out! Was looking, the 6.0L with the cam seems temping....

I just emailed him about eh 4L80e thing, I have 3 91 V3500's all with 4L80E's, 2 are TBI 350's and the other is 6.2 for those prices I'm considering the swap

Should be as simple as could be to control the 4L80E trans with the 6.0 computer i would think?

I would think so, IF you could plug the 4L80E Directly into the LS ecm and completely elimanate the factory 91 ECM and trans control module

we didnt talk about the 4l80 trans since i'm not running one, i do know a 700r4 is a PITA behind one of these drive by wire engines as there's no where to connect the TV cable. but all i have to worry about is a vacuum line! :D
