The restoration/modification of Daisy.

These pics don't help:
They both look like they are the same spline count, but can't confirm from the pics.
You need to try it on.
Also the other side is also of concern, some will fit right, and some you will need to weld you fitting on the shaft to make it work.
I believe yours should be a double D shaft. How is this one.

i finally did something suburban related today. i went to a local junkyard and pulled two XJ steering shafts. one's form a '90, the other is from a '93. there are some slight differences between them so i figured i'd post some photos and see which is the right one. i guess i could have pulled the shaft off of my suburban and matched them up, but that'd make too much sense. lol

i'm beginning to think i should move this to the garage.

you're right, after a closer look, the splines are the same between both of them and the column end is the same as well.

the only real difference is this. i'm assuming that the'reboth designed to have some "give" in that coupler right below the u-joint. i might use the cleaner one on the left and throw a bead on there at work tonight and weld it up solid. looks easier to do than the other one. i'm not affecting the slip joint in the middle of the shaft that way.

I brought the nicer looking XJ shaft to work tonight and cleaned it up. These things do slip in the middle right? I'm assuming they do and it's just really stiff. I've read that I might have to heat it up a little. I'll try that when I get home.

Hard to get loose, but once you do, you can sand down the bushings and make it slide nicely. Don't throw out the bushings like i did and think it will be snug enough.... It won't be.

HAHAA!! i wish. until my tax return shows up, i doubt ill be getting anything done on the sub. maybe this weekend ill get some wire wheels and start stripping the sheet metal. it'd be nice to have it all one color.

ok, i'm ****in sick of my truck sitting out there doing nothing, i havent made and progress on it in months. tomorrow is payday, i'm buying a new cylinder for my cherry picker and getting the old engine out of my dad's back yard. i'll go wash it somewhere, my chevy needs a bath anyway and start tearing into it. maybe ill get those wire wheels i mentioned too and start stripping sheet metal.

either way, tomorrow, SOMETHING is happening with my suburban!!

:waytogo: Awesome ! I know the feeling LOL . At least you will be working on it.

Looks like I am going to work on my buddy's Sami because I need to work on something before I go crazy.

Strip that bad boy down .

today was a good day. i met a co-worker for sushi, then stopped at redwing boots for new laces, harbor freight for some tools/****, autozone for some primer and came home to spend some time with my suburban. now my wife is coming home with jimmy john's for dinner.

i decided against bringing the engine over to my house as i don't have room for the engine and cherry picker in my garage right now. so i got some wire wheels and started stripping the sheet metal. this took about two hrs, maybe less. i think ill pick up another grinder and have my brother help me next week, two of us should be able to get a lot of work done. i think im gonna sand it a little before priming. i gotta find a good source for rattle cans of primer, autozone is a little expensive.

yep! haha, im gonna head back out there in a few min, hopefully i dont blow away, its windy as hell here today.

i finished up that fender, decided not to continue due to the wind out there today but at least i got something done. i'm on my 2nd wire wheel already, might have been able to finish the fender with one but it was coming apart like crazy. gonna bring home some acetone from work and clean it up tomorrow then prime it. gotta cut off those fangs too, dammit.

Whats your plan to recover it?

unfortunately i dont have the room/equipment you do so i'll be stripping and priming one panel at a time then once its running i'll take it somewhere and have the whole thing shot white.

I just posted in Ymigisi's 5.3 thread but I'll post here too.

There's a guy up here in Billings who has a complete 80,000 mile 5.3 out of his 2002 truck for $500. He's even willing to ship it. Let me know if you want his number and I'd be willing to take a look at it for you if you wanted it.

Lemme see if got it the cash right now. There are some here locally but they're more expensive.
