The restoration/modification of Daisy.

i got some more body work done today. i switched to a 120 grit sanding wheel on the grinder and holy **** its faster!! ive gotta do some sanding with a smaller sander sill around the windows and remove all the door handles but it's moving along.

i got some more work done on my suburban today. and might have broken something else. i finished sanding the driver's door and damn near finished the drivers rear door. id have finished it but now it won't open... i'm thinking the vibration of the sanders might have locked the door, but the rod for the knob fell down inside that door years ago and since it has power locks i never worried about it. i think i'll try putting a battery in it and seeing if it'll unlock and open. i also pulled the rain gutters off and sanded where they mount. ill take them to work and sand blast them, much easier.

And your doing all this with a wide wheel? What type wheel are you using?

no i switched to a sanding disc on the grinder and a random orbit sander to clean up afterwards. the wire wheel was sllooowww... ive got to get some masking tape and some sand paper to do the small detail sanding by hand.

Mmmm, sunshine

it was in the mid 60s today, not bad for early February.

I got the drivers side doors primed. And I'll be ordering a body mount set and window seals soon! Hooray for tax returns!!

I need to get back to work on my suburban, the other day I caught myself looking at heeps on Craigslist.

While I was at it I found a DRW Dana 60 up in UT that I'm going to buy. Complete with calipers, tie rod and drive flanges for $600. It's out of a '78 K30 so I believe it's got necked down inner shafts in it. But for $600 I don't care. The suburban will never be a rock crawler. My friend has a lathe big enough to cut the dually flanges off of it and make it an SRW axle. Or I could just run H1 beadlocks, either way I'm happy.

Oh and I snagged a couple of 14" electric fans off of a retired bus here at work. So when this all comes back together it'll have some nice fans on it.

I like the idea of running DRW axles with H1 wheels .I know what you mean about CL. I catch myself not looking at parts but entire vehicles sometimes. LOL

yeah stock H1s are cheaper than recentered ones. i'm gonna leave it DRW.

any ideas for the rear end? its a standard SRW 1 ton 14bff with 3.5" wide brakes..

When I get my H1s (someday) I will put my dually hubs back on and run big wheel spacers on the rear. :thumb:

yeah i'm thinking 2" spacers. unless throwing Dana 70 hubs or something on my axle will widen it up any.
