The restoration/modification of Daisy.

DUDE!

I could draw those mounts up and make them all cool

i'm sure you could but i'm going to make/install these this weekend. i just ordered EZ-inches and new shackles for the rear end so i can move the axle back 1" to center it in the fender and line up my shock mounts.

Finally took her down a dirt road near my house and flexed her up a little. She's got some more left in her but so far everything looks good.

So how is it on the road with the cross over steering and anti sway bar removed?

I would also like to know. But you are still running no shocks right? That's a biggie.

The steering is great, it's steers easily and doesn't wander. It pulls a little to the right right now because I haven't adjusted the toe yet but I have no complaints as far as steering goes. As far as not having sway bars, it doesn't have shocks yet either so it bounces and sways more than it should. We are actually building shock mounts right now so by the end of the day I'll be able to give you a better answer as far as that goes. Having stiff ass front springs cuts down on the sway a little though I'd rather have softer springs.

I spent the day at my shop with my brother, dad and Antibling, we got the shocks mounted, fuel sending unit changed and welded the ends of my frame back on.

The upper shock mounts worked out pretty damn well, my brother is a good welder so I had him do the important stuff. We preheated the frame a little and burned em in, no going back now I guess.

The rear lowers just needed to be welded on. No big deal.

I stuck these back on...

Found that my rear brakes are leaking, I checked the hard lines and they're tight. They're not even wet, it looks like it's coming out of the bolt hole. I'll pull it off tomorrow and look at it.

Okay I got a little update as far as my rear brake leak. It's not the brakes, it's gear oil coming out of that bolt hole. I crawled underneath it this morning, wiped it all clean and gave it a sniff and it's definitely not DOT3. So I took the bolt out, shot a bunch of RTV in the hole and tightened it back down, we'll see if that does it.

My new rear shackles and EZ inches showed up from DIY4X yesterday so maybe next weekend I'll get those installed. Right now I'm going to take care of my leaky axle shafts.

i took advantage of some 4th of July sales and picked up some mounting plates and gussets to start on some rock sliders and a pair of u-bolts. i tried removing the inside u-bolts t fully weld my rear shock mounts and the inner one on the pass side is totally ruined. i had to have overtightened it, i cannot break one of the nuts loose. my 1/2" IR impact didn't stand a chance so i put a 24" breaker bar on it and barely moved it. oh well, new ones are on the way. i'm gonna use the 2x2" 1/4" wall square tube ive got here for the legs of the sliders, WFO concepts 4x5" cage mount plates and 2" gussets for the frame mounts. i'm thinking 2x4" square tube under the rocker panel and having a friend bend up some 1.5" tube for the kick out/step bars. i'm really excited to start building stuff for Daisy, sliders and the skid plate are first. after getting that done maybe i'll be confident enough to work on bumpers, lol!

i had to go into work today and fix a truck for an early monday job. so i took daisy so i could plug up a small exhaust leak and flex test her properly. i can pick a tire up 31-32" before another tire lifts. the steering clears beautifully, ive got plenty of brake line front and rear and i'm not even close to maxing out my shocks, up or down. from my bump stop mounts to the spring plate, fully compressed i've got 7". so i've gotta get some bump stops and weld up some pads on the spring plates for them to hit. since the axle is moved forward 1" the bump stops would hit a u-bolt if i just slapped some on there. with the drivers front stuffed the drag link misses the oil pan by about 3/4" and the spring clears the upper tie rod end by about the same amount. over all i'm thrilled with how everything worked out.

the shocks don't hit anything! i was a little worried about them touching the vertical plates of the upper mounts but everything clears.

The restoration/modification of Daisy... [shocks mounted]

So any updates? I can't wait to see you mob this thing out to APEX.

I'll be buying the steel to build sliders this week, maybe building them this weekend. Adjusted the toe today, should drive a little straighter. Might try lowering her a little this weekend also, she looks too tall right now for the tires that are on it. I hope when I get my new tires that there are a true 37 inches and fill the fenders a little better than these old junk-ass things do. I still need to finish weld the rear lower shock mounts, take all the shocks off and paint all the mounts.

How about a random photo of the front end?

That will do just fine. If you ever need an extra wrenching hand just let me know I wouldn't mind driving across town to lend a brother a hand. And when your ready to sell them tires let me know. I will take those old one off your hands.
