The restoration/modification of Daisy... [new wheels/tires]

Nothing much going on lately, the biggest update I have is a fuel mileage estimate. The weather has been nice enough that we're doing all of our grocery shopping and stuff with the suburban which is giving me a good real-world mileage estimate for around town. I've burned half a tank and gone 210 miles, with a 32 gallon tank that works out to about 13.1mpg in town which I am perfectly happy with. (My brother's 2013 dodge only gets 15mpg in town and my truck is way badasser!)

Yesterday I installed a couple of plugs and grommets into the firewall, it's amazing how much heat and noise can come through a 2" hole. I dropped the air pressure in the tires down to 40PSI, the tire shop had them all set at 55. She rides much better now. And lastly, I adjusted the drag link so my steering wheel is centered now.

I'm thinking a trip to the Willamette valley would be just what you need for a trip assessment of mileage !

I had to google that one, that's a little ways out! We're thinking about a trip up to southern Utah for some of the fall colors here in the next couple weeks. I need to sell my old wheels/tires so I can but a spare tire before a road trip.

I've been putting miles on her around town. The fun factor of the motor swap hasn't worn off yet, this last tank full only got me 11mpg. I bet I can get 12+ if I back off the skinny pedal a little.

This weekend's project was to finish designing bumpers. I think I'm pretty close right now. I like the way they've turned out. I need to buy a couple sheets of 3/16" and 1/4" plate along with a couple sticks of tube and I'll be ready to cut/weld everything. I might stretch the ends of the front bumper to bring it back towards the fender a little more. Both bumpers will have 2" receivers in them and I'll do a hitch mount for the winch. The rear should have room for two swing out pivots so I can do a dual swing out kinda like PMA4x4 did.

The restoration/modification of Daisy... [new wheels/tires]

Looks like Daisy is making her first highway trip this weekend. Heading up to Zion national park this weekend to check out some of the fall colors in the canyon. I can't wait!

Next weekend I'll be buying the steel for the sliders and bumpers. I picked up a welder the other day from my boss. It's just a little Lincoln 125+ but it should be able to handle what I need to do.

I like the bumper designs too Scott
Good luck w the trip this weekend

Nice! Should be pretty awesome! I still have some kind of vibration issues with mine above 55. At 70 it's completely out of hand. I think it's the tires. I'm going to try balancing with airsoft. Then I also need to fix my springy steering. Because of that, mine has yet to leave town with the 5.3!

No offense meant at all, but this is exactly why mine got a crate 350. I've put 20k on mine, and our motor install dates weren't that different....:haha:

His engine has nothing to do with the steering or vibration issue.

Motor runs like a dream! Makes me just die to go road tripping in it! But then it drives like poo poo and shakes the fillings out of your head! Around town its awesome! I have only put 30k miles on my burb in the whole 10 years i have had it. I have just always had many other vehicles to mix the miles up with. I mean, for a while there, i had my 77 c10, 78 k25, 79 k5, and jetta! I think each of the trucks got less than a thousand miles on them that year!
