The restoration/modification of Daisy.

yesterday i cut into the exhaust to take care of the issue I've had with the axle hitting the y-pipe. i cut the pass side off just below the header flange and right in the middle under the torque converter. the pass side is moved up just over 2" now by shortening the tube that comes down from the header and adding a 45* bend under the trans. i also cut the O2 sensor bung out of the old pipe and welded it into this one. i'm happy with the way it turned out. not exactly happy with my welder though, the power adjustment isn't behaving properly. i was either blowing through the pipe or piling up wads of metal. at anything under 1/2 power it doesn't even penetrate 16ga exhaust tubing, just over 1/2 power I've got to move faster than i want to keep from blowing through. it's time to add a 220v line t the garage and step it up some…

working out the kinks… i went wheeling and found three issues with the truck, those 3 are now resolved. it's time to move on to other things, sunday i'll be at my shop charging the A/C and sanding the body. I've got a list of things to do before Moab.

I hope it's in prep for paint! I know paint isn't "important" but it sure makes for for a finished looking truck!

You're doing bodywork before Moab?:whistle::pimp:
Yep, haha! I have no intention of beating her up on trails, for me it's all about vehicle preservation. Being able to live out of the truck for a week at a time and cruise back home at 75mph.

Yep, I'd like to get it painted ASAP. Once the whole body is stripped and primed, I'll sand and spray another couple coats of primer to get it prepped then take it to a Maaco or something. I'm not gonna spend $3k on a paint job.

Now I'm confused. If that's your purpose, why are you gearing it for rock crawling? I would think that terrain difficult enough to require 4.88 gearing would eventually lead to body damage....no? :dunno:

i didn't think i was gearing it for rock crawling, i figured id go with 4.88s because everyone suggests them. maybe 4.56 would be better for my intended use… dammit i hate making choices!

On the east coast, yes, but it seems like the Western US is a lot more wide open.

yeah, trees aren't such a concern out here.

4.88s are a little bit low for 35s, and if he ever goes to 37s he will be good. And that gearing will keep his tranny happy and cool with lock up going and staying in.

yeah, i imagine 4.56s would be better for my current tire size. i like the option of stepping up to 37s but still not sure if i will. i don't plan on rock crawling hard enough to need a bigger tire. i'm sure i'll be happy with either ratio but for my plans/usage 4.56 might be better...

disassemble door, wash inside of door skin, cut it into strips and lower it down into the door through the window slot at the top, reach into the door and grab it, get it stuck to the door skin, i used the handle of a long screw driver to press it into the metal to make sure there were no bubbles.

i needed longer screws than what came supplied with them.

Horns? Who What Where…
they're Hella supertones, got them on amazon. they don't work because my horn button/switch is messed up.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/trd-1327 i drilled/tapped the block off plate above the oil filter for my autometer oil pressure sensor.

Heard back from the driveline shop yesterday, just under $2500 to re-gear the suburban... Ouch.

I assume that includes the gears, bearings, seals etc? I'm in the same boat so I'm just wondering what to expect.

Last time I re-geared in Vegas, it cost about $400 an axle because I brought the axles in on a trailer.

Damn dude. Vegas isn't too far away. Gears should be around 600 to a grand. Pay for my gas and feed me ( that might be a deal breaker.) I will come on down

I was going to offer the same thing, but the feed part could get expensive!
