The restoration/modification of Daisy.

The restoration/modification of Daisy… [Blazer Bash is getting closer]

Just to add to the fun, today I turned the a/c on and it made a nasty groaning noise for a few seconds. You could feel it vibrate in the floor. It's done that three or four times now. Looks like another compressor is failing, I'm gonna return this one to summit and buy a different brand. ****in new part failures man, fuel pumps, compressors, condensers... **** is getting old.

I did get the tube bent for the front bumper today, so that's cool. My order from ruff stuff is back ordered so I can't move forward with the tire carrier yet. So I think tomorrow I'll get it all cut and welded up.

Are they new or rebuilt ? Flushing the system after one dies ?

Does it have rear A/C ?

We did one yesterday that the rear expansion valve was clogged from the pieces of the two old compressors the Suburban had been through.

Not sure, they show up in a box with only Summit's logo on it. I'll ask them when I speak to them. I didn't remove the rear expansion valve after the last compressor. I'll be disassembling every thing this time.

Yep

I've got some work to do.

You can do it! You'll get this figured out eventually. And you will be happy when that day comes.

Till then I'm gonna agree with Adam's post... :pimp:

I'm thinking of doing away with the rear ac in my burb when I get to the ac. There is just so much hoses and seals and stuff back there.

Will that leave an exposed hole in the rear of your headliner? Will you have to pull the trim from a non-AC burb to make it fit?

I've considered it as well. That's a lot of space to cool off with just the dash vents, which aren't too impressive in these trucks to begin with.

Yep. It's ugly without it. You need a new rear headliner and the trim panels for the D pillars and across the top to replace your AC panels.

Thanks, I'll get it right someday.

Already did, my uv light is pretty weak (old, actually) so I'll have my friend look at it with his.

Says the guy that lives in the frosty white north...

Roll down the windows and stop bitching  :flipoff7:

Hey, if this fat old man can drive in this summer heat, I know he can do it too...:pimp:

Since my ruffstuff order isn't here yet I can't really build the tire carrier so today we knocked out the front tubes.

I like the look of ORD's front bumper but they won't sell the tubes alone so I did something similar. It's not as "big" as their bumper. It shorter and doesn't lean forward quite as much. I'm really happy with the turnout.

I would just leave the housing back there for looks. My plan is to use a setup from a pickup as far as the hoses and stuff go.

Do not do this Scott. It's way too much volume to cool with dash vents alone.

If for some reason you decide to do this (which I highly recommend against), just remove the front AC as well because it isn't going to be worth keeping that without the rear. I was driving my Suburban home the other day and was wondering why my AC was working so poorly. Turns out I forgot to turn the rear AC unit on. Cranked it up and all was well. This was on a day that it was only 114*.

Real Sanden compressors come in a Sanden box. The industry is so flooded with Chinese imitations that the line between real vs. fake becomes very blurry. I converted my wife's truck over to a Sanden to get rid of an R4 and even after telling the AC supply house to get me a genuine Sanden, it still took a couple tries to get a real one and not the Chinese clones they were selling. Get your money back and go find a real one.

I have no intention of ditching the rear unit now that I've actually got A/C. The inside of the suburban is definitely too big for just dash vents.

I'm seeing that as I try to find a new compressor, everything I see online is listed as a "sanden type 508 compressor." There's a shop here in town that does nothing but A/C parts, from automotive to commercial. They're probably my best bet.

Yeah, ditching the rear AC is a bad idea. I have a Suburban without rear air, it just never really keeps up with that giant cabin.

Skim ebay real well for a genuine sanden, you might get lucky. I scored a genuine polished unit NIB 2 years old for $102..

I haven't mentioned it yet but I'm not sure that new fuel pump installed up in Utah is really right for me. On the drive home I noticed a lack of power at higher rpm when pulling hills. It would rev to 3500-4000 and didn't seem to be pulling like it should. Over the last few days I've been driving it and observing more of the same... Yesterday I floored it in traffic, it down shifted and revved hard to almost 4000rpm and totally laid down, just kinda fluttered and lost power. It feels like I'm running out of fuel at higher rpm.

Tonight I've been researching these pumps, the delco ep381' from what I've been able to find, flows 40+gph and the Delphi fe0114 flows 32gph. My faith in ac delco pumps is gone and this Delphi isn't going to cut it seems. I found an aeromotive pump that's a drop in replacement capable of almost 90gph at 90psi. It's only $50 more than the "OEM" pumps I've been using so I think I'm gonna go ahead and order one. I don't want to go to Moab with a 4000rpm rev limiter...

I think you cursed my fuel pump.:haha: Brand new fuel pump, I hooked wire to it to find out which wire was hot and ground... Won't even prime anymore.

I think I'm going to just bite the bullet and get the areomotive pump.
