The Shop Truck

1971 Chevy C20 with a custom flat bed.
Also.., are you running dual O2 ?
I found a way to do that with the terminator.

You still running a terminator? Or did you go dominator?
Looking at that pic it looks like your running a LOT of inputs lol.
Couldn't remember if the terminator handled that many..
I started with the Dominator when I first did the LS swap in the Shop Truck.
Also.., are you running dual O2 ?
I found a way to do that with the terminator.
Yes, I'm running dual O2, but unfortunately they are the Bosch ones and not the NTKs.

With the engine wiring finished up, we installed the transmission, crossmember, and driveshaft yesterday. We also did a ton of yardwork, so nothing else got done.

Ntk better for some reason :dunno:
I always thought Bosch was pretty good stuff...

The general consensus is that they are more accurate, they are also double the cost.

I've been busy the last few days, but I haven't gotten a chance to post anything. I installed the transmission, crossmember, and driveshaft, finalized a lot of the wiring and plugged everything in. After I was done with that, I bolted on the headers and installed the H pipe. When I built the exhaust I didn't know if I was going turbo or supercharger, with the 6.0 the truck was reasonably loud, but not too bad, with the 7.0 it was very loud, especially when I was spraying. Since we decided to go supercharger, we needed to tame that down for the street. I bought the biggest straight through Magnaflow mufflers I thought I could fit, the case is 22x11x6" and are heavy. They actually split the 3" into dual 2.5" tubes inside the muffler.

There is barely enough room for them over the rear axle and they go on the straight section they're laying next to in that picture. Unfortunately I had to make quite a few changes to make them fit, but I got it done. I ended up welding the two mufflers together with V-band clamps on either end and a 90° downturn at the back, then I hung them from 3 exhaust hangers.
IMG_20260402_141545591_HDR.jpg

I had to modify the section between the old mufflers and the new mufflers to get everything to hook up.

IMG_20260402_141555569.jpg

Once everything was tacked together it all came back out for final welding.
IMG_20260402_174321768.jpg

I still need to modify the rear exits and do another modification, but the hard part is done. I don't normally post weld porn, but the v-band heat sink makes for some pretty welds.

I looked at magnaflows, but had trouble finding pics of internal construction.
I didn't want 'straight' through.
Splitting into two 2.5s gives it just enough of a deflection for me. Even it it's still basically straight through.
(I know I tend to fret over retarded things lol)

The thrush welded I tried are DEFINITELY too loud lol.
I still have to run pipes out the tail, and see then. But if it's still too loud I'm going to try something else.

.

I finished up the exhaust yesterday, I'm pretty happy with how it came out, it was a tight fit to get the mufflers in there. I need to relocate the brake line on the rear axle since it was going to get pushed into the muffler.
Here's the modification I did. I figure when I'm at a track, I might as well be loud!

I made these block offs for street driving.

It's very tight with the bags dumped, the diff cover barely touches the drivers side muffler, I'll probably just hit the muffler with a hammer at some point.

One step closer to startup!

We got some more work done this weekend, the fuel lines are finished up, we drained the transmission to replace the leaking pan gasket and got that all put back together and refilled, Amber has been cleaning up the front fenders all day today, and I got the Delta PAG fans mounted. I just had to add some metal to one side of the shroud in order to make room for the bigger fans. I got 2 rivnuts in before I broke the #8x32 mandrel. I really need a smaller tool to install those small rivnuts (that's not what she said), I broke the M5 one the same way.

With the Wegner drive kit there's really not a lot of room between the fans and the belts/pullys.

It's going to be a pain to swap belts. They told me I could use the same one for both blower pulleys, but they sent me two different length belts, so I'm not sure. I ordered couplers and tube to make the top radiator hose, which will block off what little room I have to get to the belts... I was able to cut a bit off both ends of the bottom hose and it still works.
Tomorrow I'll probably start working on the intercooler system. I need to put the AN fittings on the heat exchanger and get the tank mounted.

I did electric cutouts, just for ease.
Which ones did you use? Everything I've looked at either needs a vacuum pump or has some weird control box that only works with a key fob. I want to control it with the Dominator, I've already got the relays wired up.

I did the spelab chinesium units. I tossed the key fobs into the trash and wired the controller to a button switch on the dash.

It's fun to open them on the starting line right before the green light. Friends have told me that heads turn, because they don't expect it from a big yellow truck.

I took it a bit easy last week, we went camping over the weekend and I needed a bit of a break. I did get some work done that I haven't posted and I've gotten back in the shop this week.
While I was working on something else, Amber worked on the fenders. There's quite a bit of Bondo on the drivers fender, not sure what I'm going to do about that, but they look better than they did before so I'm happy.

I wanted to get the cooling stack installed, so I worked on the intercooler heat exchanger. I cut the old hose nipples off and welded on 12AN bungs.
IMG_20260408_100139918.jpg

I put an air nozzle in the opposite side while I was cutting so it would blow all the chips out, it seemed to work pretty good. I couldn't see anything left in the end tank.
IMG_20260408_100145103.jpg

This weld isn't the prettiest, but we pressure tested it when we were done and it's all good!
IMG_20260408_102320435_HDR.jpg

Cooling stack installed.
IMG_20260408_135643945.jpg

It's pretty tight around the top fitting, I may need to pull the cooling stack back out and clearance for the hose and fitting.
IMG_20260413_131103313_HDR.jpg

I also buttoned up the cooling system, the new upper hose is going to make changing belts difficult, but there's no way around it.
IMG_20260414_093945779_HDR.jpg

I welded a bung onto the upper hose for the steam ports. I think this is cleaner than running it back to the radiator like it was before.
IMG_20260414_162432284_HDR.jpg

I also got the ice box/intercooler coolant reservoir mounted. Now I just need to run the hoses.
IMG_20260414_170714428_HDR.jpg

I'm hoping to be able to start it this weekend, but it will likely be another week or so before I can drive it.

I didn't get into the shop yesterday, I had a gout flare up in my foot and had to rest while the steroids did their thing. Being old is fun!
I was feeling better today so I finished up the ice box mounting. It's tucked in by the frame so hopefully it will be out of harms way if I throw a tread doing a burnout.
IMG_20260417_143158549_HDR.jpg

I cut an access panel like I did for the fuel tank.
IMG_20260417_134640996.jpg

It's not quite centered, but good enough.

The to do list is getting shorter. I think we're still on track for a startup this weekend, although it will likely be without the oil cooler. I'm having trouble finding somewhere to mount it, I may have to get a smaller one. I won't need it for the break in period though, it would be nice to have for longer drives or track time so I'll get something in there eventually.

Gout is one thing I haven’t had to deal with. I need to add an oil cooler to the list of stuff. I don’t need it now but I want it.

Looking good as always. You still wanting to go to Dino’s this year?

I said I would go to Dino's if someone set up a club thing. Last year we spent more time waiting in line to get in than we actually spent at the event. If we had a place to hang out with friends and brought some beer, we would have stayed longer.
