I don't think there was that much corrosion, I'm honestly not sure what was wrong, but we fixed it. I'll tear the water pump apart at a later date, I have a feeling that was the problem.
The test drive went great! We drove 80ish miles with hills and freeways, spending most of the time between 75 and 80mph. On flat ground, cruising at 80, the temp didn't get over 210, once we hit a hill they would climb to 215 (the temp that the fans come on) and stay there. The only time I saw more is when I floored it and hit ~100 while climbing a hill.
We didn't hit any of the steeper grades that we hit Sunday, but we did take some of the same roads and the truck stayed way cooler. Previous to this, the passenger side head would stay way cooler than the drivers side, the hotter it got, the bigger the delta. Tonight, they stayed about 10 degrees apart with the passenger side head being cooler.
I think we're ready for tomorrow, we topped off the tank and checked milage to gauge fuel stops, we got just over 13mpg for the trip.
