The Shop Truck

1971 Chevy C20 with a custom flat bed.
You need giant truck nutz so you can use your crane to put them in the truck. Or a ridiculously huge cowbell. Then no one can say it needs more cowbell. Maybe just put a blown big block in the back. You know, one with a giant hole in the side. But then you could say it has a blown big block in it. So many games to play when you have a flatbed and a crane.

It's already heavy enough, not sure I need more dead weight. :D

It's just a run what you brung event, same as last time we went to Firebird. When I bought the racer ticket it said there were 137 spots left.

Hmmmm, I finally got my truck running. But the smell of burnt trans fluid while running will give you a headache.

Would be nice to get a baseline before I shove 8psi down its throat.

How is your trans mounted? When I had that issue it was because my trans mount was too rigid.

Engine is on leaf spring bushings and the trans is on a factory style poly mount.

It’s a dumb design with the 4l60e that when the converter drains it overfills the pan into the adapter. It also doesn’t help my engine is up 1.5 inches higher then stock. A flaw I made in the build that I didn’t realize would be an issue.

Well, we've been chasing down a coolant smell since we got back from Power Tour. It seems that our Brother's Trucks radiator is leaking around the tubes... I wasn't happy with the performance of the radiator, but I really wasn't wanting to replace it yet as it was finally working OK.

Now I'm on the search for the best radiator I can put in the stock location. I don't want to have to swap out the radiator again so I'm looking for something that can handle the 800ish horsepower this thing will eventually have on the street tune. Looking for recommendations.

It isn’t cheap, but will fit your needs and I doubt you will have to mess with it but Ron Davis is local to us.

I think he quoted about $2300 for a 4 row with trans cooler for me.

2300 that's insane. wtf is gold plated ? I thought the $800 I spent on my dad Ranchero rad was getting a little extreme. It is a good rad though. 3 rows of tubes, 119 compared to the 60 the 2 row had, and 14 fins per inch vs 9.

This is why I passed on it.

The real thing I'm trying to prevent is what happened to my Silverado. I spent $900 on a bling Mishimoto only to have worse cooling than with the 20 year old stock radiator. I did end up replacing it with an XDP radiator that seems to be doing the trick combined with the hood louvers.

I have one of their radiator and fans set up. Reasonable priced mid tier drop in fit. Their customer service is excellent. Lifetime warranty. Never gotten hot with it but then again I've never come close to the heat at drag and drive events in the desert.
