The Shop Truck

1971 Chevy C20 with a custom flat bed.
It won't be as exciting as with the other engine, but there is drag racing this Friday and it's Amber's turn. I need to work on the tune a bit as I think the old tune I had for this engine had bad injector data. All I know is that it's adding a ton of fuel across the map. Once I get the fueling dialed in I'll play with the nitrous. I've got the 150 jets in it and that should be good enough for her first run. Hopefully I learn something about the nitrous distribution now that I have the EGT probes installed.

Apparently Amber brings the rain. It's looking like it will get rained out again this Friday, it's also supposed to rain every day which is making tuning difficult.

The Amber curse is official, it's not supposed to rain today, but since it's been raining for the last 3 days straight, they can't get the track to dry out and cancelled the event.

We've got to get up early tomorrow, we've submitted our expression of interest for Sick Michigan Miles and registration opens tomorrow at 9AM Eastern (7AM AZ). 300 drivers spots, top 100 finishers from last year have already had a chance to register along with who knows how many others. I'm guessing there will only be ~150 spots and they had over 1000 expressions of interest submitted. It will likely sell out within a few minutes and not make it to the open sales at 10.

I tried last year for Sick Michigan, Sick 66 and Sick Smokies. Did the interest forms for each. Sat at the computer at open for each. No dice.

I hope you have better luck.

When I was at day zero for Sick Smokies, they offered me a spot in the hard tire class. I was on my way home from a week on the road, so I passed. I wish now that I didn't.

Sick Week sold out in 1 minute or something. From what i understand you need to be logged in and ready to fill out the form fast in order to get a spot. We'll see what happens.

I'll probably also try to get Sick66 this year and Big Sky Race Week. I know for Sick 66 this year they want older cars that are more classic hot rods, hopefully they like the shop truck enough to get me in early if I don't get Michigan Miles.

Do they still do Rocky Mountain race week? That was a cool run.
When Bandimere Speedeway closed they switched it to "Rocky Mountain Race Weekend" which was this year, nothing on the schedule for next year yet. Luckily the Bandimeres are building a new drag strip so maybe it will come back.

In other news to make me even more confused. I put the 150 jets in and did a test 5 second nitrous hit with the 6.0.

This is at the end of the pull, the green vertical line is the nitrous shutting off. The bottom, coolest cylinder is #8. I have the cursor set right at the green line so the temps on the left are right at that line.

I did not, it was still running fine and I have #8 plugs with 8° of timing pulled out and a target AFR of 12:1. Even before the nitrous fired #8 was the coldest pipe.

We just finished booking all the hotels as well, although we may be able to cancel the first two and last two days if we can camp at the host track in our RV.

I just wanted to post a small update. I haven't done much with the truck, but we did finish tearing down the engine and dropped the block off at Outlaw to have it cleaned up. I'm not sure if it will need bored yet, but I should find out next week. They're pretty backed up so I'm not sure how long it will take, then I need to order pistons once we figure out what the bore will be. It doesn't look like I can just buy one replacement, so I'll need a new set regardless.

I also decided to go with a LiFePO4 starting battery. My fuel pump and dash like to turn off while I'm cranking if the voltage drops below 10, it's no longer an issue with the new battery. Ionic had a great black Friday sale and I picked this one up for $260.

I'll be moving it back to the toolbox before summer, but it should be fine up here for the winter. I'll need to do a remote kill when I do that though.

Mid Michigan is less than 2 hours from my place.
If anyone wants to stay prior to or after the event, I have a couple beds and a lift available if needed.

We're towing the Shop Truck up there with our RV. We're staying at the track the first two nights and the last night after the event and have all our other hotels booked already. Thanks for the offer though! We're trying to stay with the group as much as possible to make some new friends and be where the action is at. Maybe we can meet up for dinner at some point before the action starts.

Last night was fun, weather was beautiful. Amber made 5 passes, 4 with me in the truck and one without. We didn't end up running nitrous as we would have had to go back through tech and by that time, the staging lines were about 45-60 minutes deep.
I think the truck is capable of a high 14 with the LQ4 with the current gearing, but I'm not positive. Her biggest issue was keeping her foot to the floor, but she improved every run which was nice.
Best RT - .325
Best ET - [email protected] (apparently I weigh more than I thought because she picked up .5 seconds with me out  )
