The Shop Truck

1971 Chevy C20 with a custom flat bed.
We're going to put the engine back in tomorrow, so I spent today getting it ready. The blower intake manifold is very low to the valley cover, I ended up getting some aluminum tube and 4an fittings so I could make a custom setup that would fit under the intake. It's done, but I'm still waiting on one fitting from Speedway.

I also cut out the center tube from the engine mounts, capped them off, repainted, and reinstalled.

There are so many little things I'm changing/modifying it feels like I'm building a whole new truck.

We got the engine in today and installed the accessories and drive pulleys, except the power steering pump. When I ordered the kit I told them to leave that off as I already had one with a remote setup. What I didn't know is that their kit uses a GM type 2 power steering pump, so now I'm going to need to order one of those...

Outside of that hiccup, the day went pretty well. We did have some issues with the alternator pulley, but I modified a socket to allow us to torque the new pulley on.

Now, on to the good stuff.

Yesterday we bolted the intake manifold on, then I realized we were missing an o-ring for the supercharger bypass line. Amber was looking into the intake to see if possibly it fell in there and noticed a pinched o-ring between the upper and lower half of the intake manifold...

We're also having issues getting the fuel injectors to mount in the fuel rails. It's designed for different length injectors than we have so I'm trying to figure out what adapter I need to make it work.

I played hell trying to get my injectors to fit in my intake and rails.
Ended up having to remove all of the one way push on rings that are there to hold the O-rings on.
Then I could get them in enough to line the bolts up and mount the rails. Went through like 3+4 sets of adapters and none fit my setup.

I've ordered what I think I need to get my existing injectors to work, we'll see when the parts show up.

I drove out to Speedway today and picked up the correct power steering pump. It's a GM type II power steering pump, nothing I've ever seen before. On a Saginaw style pump you press the pulley on until it's flush with the end of the shaft, on this one it presses up against a bearing on the front of the pump.

After I got the adapter on, I bolted on the pulley and installed it onto the bracket. Other than the two AN adapters it's just an off the shelf pump so I shouldn't need to carry a spare.

I took measurements and ordered the fittings I need to make new lines, these will be routed nicer than before with Fragola PTFE 6000 line so they should look nicer as well.
After that, Amber wanted to see the belt on, which was impossible to do because the accessory tensioner is seized... She sure is good at finding broken sh*t.

How will that pump do for the hydro boost? And do you just drill and add a return line in the reservoir?

I've been looking at kits that run my stock pump only, because I thought I needed to for the hydro.

If not that does open a lot more options for sure

I run one of PSCs pro touring remote reservoirs.
Even with the Saginaw pump I ran a remote reservoir can that only had the 2 fittings. The 10AN is the fill from the reservoir, the two 6AN fittings are return lines that go back through the internal filter.
I don't need a ton of flow, so I'm just using a stock pump, but you can get upgraded pumps with more flow if you're running ram assist.
Caught up on this thread, and wow! This thing got really nice, really quick. Nice work y’all.

Thanks! That means a lot coming from you. I'm definitely not on your level, but I'm working on it.

What are you running in the rear diff for traction? Thinking soon the g80 won’t spin them both sense I already over power it.

Rebuild the G80 :dunno:
Actually pretty hard to over power one that's in good order.

I was looking more into the wegner drive, and seen some of the options.
I notic d they had an option for the 370 amp Mechman in there..... Did you do that one or the 250amp Power Master?

I put in a Detroit Truetrac torsional limited slip diff. It's awesome.

Zoom in on the alternator. It's the 370 amp Mechman. After I lost a fairly new Power Master on the dyno, I switched to Mechman.
