The Shop Truck

1971 Chevy C20 with a custom flat bed.
That's the info I found online was that a sudden increase in blowby without a loss in power = bad air compressor or turbo. I replaced the air compressor first, then I rebuilt the turbo.
 
I live in AZ, I've never gotten anything out of my air tanks, not even water. I did check before I replaced the compressor and both tanks were dry.
I purchased a new, oem manufacturer air compressor. I had the same guy that rebuilt my Silverado turbo do my motorhome turbo which ended up needing a new (from CAT) exhaust housing.
 
Badish news and good news.
Bad news first with some back story. I have 2 fuel pumps for the truck, a 3.5gpm and a 5gpm. I initially bought the 5gpm fuel lab pump and it was DOA, I sent it in to be repaired (Fuellab has a lifetime warranty) and bought a 3.5gpm one that Summit happened to have on the shelf. It's been in the truck until last week. I decided I'd drop the big boy in for this dyno run, just in case the 3.5 wasn't enough (it should be). It failed already. I'm going to see if they'll just swap me for the 3.5gpm pump as it doesn't seem like the 5gpm one is going to be reliable.

The good news. He managed to get one pump gas pull after doing some initial tuning. I told him I'm not really trying to squeeze every pump gas horsepower I can out of it and as long as it was at least 6-700 hp it would be fine. It made just under 700 at 11lbs of boost with not much timing in it. He's going to do one more pump gas pull then switch to Ethanol.

Which Fuellab model pump were you running?
 
I would guess it's based of the other twin screw architecture. I can say my 400lph HE series pump has been going since 2018 (i think). I took it apart once after I cavitated it for awhile, looked good to me, sent it to them and they said it was fine. That's so long ago it isn't really an apples to apples comparison I suppose. I do not run PWM.

Were you running the PWM? Wonder if it just wasn't happy with not enough return. 5GPM is alot. The different flow rate design may effect lifespan of the screws possibly. You should rip it apart and see what happened.

I'll pull it apart somewhat, but they have a lifetime warranty, so I'm going to send it back.
I didn't look at the "dyno" sheets that I got with the pumps when I installed the 1100lph (5gpm). He initially said it just kept popping the fuse so he put a bigger one in (25amp to 40amp) and it popped that too. The 625lph pump pulls about 15 amps at full chooch, the 1100lph pulls almost 35amps. There wasn't much fuel in the tank, since he has to drain it, I'm guessing it just overheated and melted down. I shouldn't need more than the 625lph, so I'm just going to see if they'll downgrade me to the more reliable pump.
