The Story Of A Cummins Suburban (Lots Of Pics)

Take any good trips in this thing lately? Photobucket had a hay day with this thread :angry1:
No kidding! :doah: :doah:
CK5 fundraiser time!
sorry bastards...how much would an update to his account cost? There's entirely too much good info to let be lost....
****ing fotobucket.
I've hated photobucket for years.... too bad about all the lost pics.

I agree on all counts. Talk about frustrating; maintaining this thread for almost ten years just to have it shut down one day with no advanced notice and then have the links held hostage until the extortion money is paid. When it first happened I was figuring it was going to be $25 or maybe $50.00 and I was wondering if I really wanted to deal with it as I pay the $25 just to keep membership here to maintain this thread, then add that on to it and it becomes less reasonable. Well, that would be extremely reasonable compared to the $400.00 they want to release my links. I'm not sure what I want to do with this. It's been many years of work into this thread. There is a TON of useful information in it. I still get PM's with questions about this or that on a conversion. The pictures still exist, but they just killed the ability to link pictures (3rd party hosting). That is the ONLY reason I used that sorry excuse for a website. I appreciate that times change and costs increase and fees will be needed, but those tools never gave any warning and the money they want is insane. NFW I can swing that. There are about a bazillion pics in here that I would need to reload to another free site and re-link to this site (this would take months to complete). Then does THAT site decide to follow photobucket's lead and throw a random $400.00 invoice at me some day?? I don't know what to do here. Ideas/suggestions/opinions??

Anyway, back to the initial question, yes, we took one dandy of a vacation this year. We crossed into Canada in Glacier NP to Waterton Lakes NP, Banff NP, Lake Louise, Jasper NP, Columbia Icefields Parkway, over into British Columbia, down through Valemount, Siccamous, MT Revelstoke NP, Glacier NP (the Canadian one), Yoho NP, Radium Hot Springs down to Roosville where we crossed back into the US and then down to Glacier NP (the US one) where we hit Going to the Sun Road again. This time we had great success--no rain!! We ran it west to east, then went down to Two Medicine Lake then we followed Hwy 2 back around the bottom of the park to Kalispell for the night. Then down to Elkhorn and then to Butte for that night. Then we headed back south to Price UT for the next night. The next day we went to Grand Junction, CO where we met up with K5Nutt for lunch and got to check out his latest rig then down through Ouray, Silverton and in to Durango for a couple nights before heading home. 4660 miles, 2 countries, 7 states, 2 provinces. 297hrs or aboot 13 days, 355 mi/day average, but some days we moved very little and an average speed of 15mph for every hour we were away from home. It sounds like a lot, but we broke it up into manageable chunks so it didn't feel so long (and the seats in the Suburban are VERY comfortable). We made Ogden UT the first day and that was hitting Salt Lake City at rush hour. SLC rush hour starts at about Provo and doesn't end until about Ogden--ugh. It was great to get a huge chunk of miles behind us that first day. We were in Montana by late morning the next day. It was a ton of fun. AWESOME scenery. I took a ton of photos that I still haven't had a chance to get through completely. Maybe I can make a decision and post some sometime.

I think I read that you can download your photos from photobucket to your PC, then you could upload from your PC to this site, but I'm in the same boat on many of mine, and I don't feel like taking a day or two and pulling from fokbucket and then having to edit my threads to put up the pics again.
your trips are inspiring, hopefully someday I can cruise the country in my livingroom sized CC with Cummins power!

You can certainly D/L your pics and then upload them here so that they will exist as long as this site exists. It sucks, but it's doable. @Chief Brody did it to his monster thread a few weeks back.

This exact thing is why I've always hosted my own pics. It's fairly cheap to have your own hosting site and it lets you create your own web page if you feel so inclined.

Glad to hear the update!! With the massive quantities of pictures in this thread I doubt anyone here would gripe about not doing the work of downloading and re-hosting. Hec my build is only like 6 pages and I've been putting it off. This thread would be an insane task

I'm doing that same almost exact trip here in a few weeks, except I'm going over to Edmonton. Should be fun.
I was hoping to get over to Edmonton to meet up with Rene, but we were heading in the wrong direction for that to happen.

I know the site hosting here is an option. I always used PB because I could easily use the same pic on multiple sites and also non-subscribers could see the pics here. So how does a person with very(!!) limited computer knowledge go about finding information on how to do this to determine the feasibility of this method??

Do you still have the pictures handy offline? Uploading to CK5 is pretty straight-forward, I can talk you through that end.

As for PB, I have little useful knowledge. Either way, redoing >1200 posts worth of pictures will be a huge, huge endeavor. Also, I can't even follow the picture links to PB anymore, so I'm not sure how available the pictures still are.

I'd get caught up on the more recent trips before starting a massive migration over from PB. But that's just my $.02.

I assume you mean about doing your own hosting. You would have to get a hold of a hosting company such as this one:
https://www.1and1.com/web-hosting?a...Klvc4kjg5lSnTDPQZmaQ5Z6ry4hY4LE8aAiJGEALw_wcB
Basically, they give you an online address that is connected to the internet and you can put anything you want there. If you put the right html files there you'll have a website. You can also host pics there, then just link to them directly like I do:
http://www.renegadeheroes.com/ashmanfiles/pics/20130928_111116.jpg.jpg
Once you have site hosting, you can also buy a domain name from someone like godaddy (pretty cheap) and have that domain name link to your hosting site.

In my case, I have the domain name "renegadeheroes" and it links to my hosting site. Although this step is not necessary, it does make for an easier address to remember. As you can see, I created a couple of sub folders that contain my pics, but you can do it however you want. Most hosting sites make it super easy and it's not much different than organizing folders on your home computer.

They will provide FTP access so that you can transfer files from your computer to your site. Then just link the address wherever you want, like I did above. I assume you already know how to use IMG tags to get the pic itself to show up.

It's a gamble I guess. The cost of that, while rather reasonable, is more than I am wanting to pay to keep pictures online. I don't use pictures anywhere other than this thread ( and its twin on another site), so with the cost of those memberships and then the hosting site, it takes it into a price range that I am not so enthusiastic about. I appreciate the information and the education on the subject. It makes a bit more sense now. I am thinking I'll look into other hosting sites and see what I find.

Nooooooopictures.....arrrrggghhhh. Lol.

I agree.... Ugh.

Owning your own domain is really the only way to control your hosted data. Even if the host goes down or suspends service you can move it to a new host pretty easily.

Every day I'm cussing at PB for what they've done, it's a shame they didn't take a different approach.

So I've looked around for answers, but evidently not in the right places, so I'll try here. Uploading photos to the CK5 mothership, do they still have that large CK5.com in the lower right corner like they did a few years back?? If I upload to CK5, can they be linked to another forum site?? Is there a limit to how many pics can be loaded??

I switched over to using CK5 and none of mine are watermarked like you say. And if memory serves for premium members photo storage is unlimited. I have No idea about linking to another site, this is my only forum.

You can load 20 pictures per post. Only paying members can see them, so linking to other sites doesn't work unless those readers are also CK5 members. The watermark is gone.

@mosesburb Uploaded or attached pics do not have any watermark. If you upload your pics to the media gallery you have unlimited storage and you can link them to other sites, you also have full control of who can view pics, albums etc. You can make your photos, private, members only, or everyone.

That's only for "attachments" to the forum, the media gallery is unlimited and you can link out.
